Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and to photograph it.

Official Code: TS10204

Official Name: Ballina Lighthouse

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself. Sometimes, they are buildings like lighthouses and churches. Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to. These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

This trigonometric station can be found on SIX Maps NSW.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website. If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver or yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

This is a passive trig, with the aiming point being the top of the Lighthouse.

We were picking up a kayak in Ballina on a winter day that felt more like a spring day and made a few finds on the way.

This is a cute little lighthouse. Felt a bit odd heading up to it, with the house nearby and the random cars parked on the grass, but after watching another family head over we went straight to the front door.

It was very windy, cool, rough seas. Perfect in my opinion. Yes I already know I’m different haha. I met a lovely couple at the lighthouse who have been van-lifing for 14 years. They target Lighthouses on their road trips. We swapped Lighthouse stories and I got some great advice and info from them. It was a pleasure to meet and talk to likeminded adventurers… all while standing next to this splendid specimen of a lighthouse that is also a Trig point cache! I really hope I cross paths with them again to continue our chat Smile

As I was taking photos a rainbow appeared which I managed to capture. See GA8558 for a better rainbow image from me. I spent a long time here. This was the highlight of my day. My day wasn’t over though.. there were a few great geocaching experiences to follow this, thanks for the cache Very Happy

What a cute little lighthouse. We parked below where lots of people were sitting in their cars with binoculars looking out to sea. With so many white caps, I doubt they'd see a lot. Perhaps looking for migrating whales? TFTT

Visited the lighthouse today with my daughter trying geocaching for the first time. The lighthouse is located in a park with ocean views and a perfect place for a picnic.

found while staying in the area for a few days

It was late in the day and getting back to my hotel in Casino was on my mind. I came in took the shot and left. Except for the family portrait I took before mine.

I was at work today and saw a new trig listed in the area. This is the first time I think I’ve seen this happen! It wasn’t far away either…and…I happened to be going that way this afternoon to pick up the other half from work.

Pulled over close by to the lighthouse, the weather was amazing and the views are awesome from up here. The surf was really rough, but fascinating to watch from up here.

There were a few others at the lighthouse, some having lunch or just admiring the view. I took the obligatory pic and kept going. Gotta love a seaside trig, and this one is so easy to get too!
