Description

Lake Base 2

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This Trig is of the modern pillar type that I have seen a few of around Canberra

Found after a nearby meet and greet in the dark. Cold night, but warmly dressed in thick jumper, scarf, hat, gloves, etc. That's Aykayem standing next to the trig in the photograph. Decrypter is holding the 'floating' torch on the right. The other photograph is of the National Museum of Australia entrance at night. TFTC.

Even leaving at stupid O’clock can’t stop me from Geocaching or better yet 4 Geo-events. Big Grin Having to leave at 5am to arrive on time for the first event was difficult but worth it. This is because I received the ‘Lucky Door Prize’, Big Grin which happens to be a new trackable for my collection. Before, during and after each event, I quickly ducked away to find a couple nearby caches. This was sometimes with people and other times without. It was all great fun and nice to see everyone again for the fun plus talking all things Geo. During the second event someone discovered that we were at GZ of another cache. IT’S STILL THERE! Big Grin A bonus find for everyone. The 3rd event today was my 50th event, I have attended. Big Grin A unique milestone which everyone congratulated me for. With the large gap between the third and fourth events, I checked into my motel, found a couple labs and mystery caches. I was at the last event for only a few minutes as I was meeting up with other friends (who don’t do Geocaching… yet) over the other side of the city. Afterwards, it was time to head back to the motel for sleep and getting ready for heading home tomorrow.
After the massive day yesterday, I decided on a slower day today. This included finding the GCA caches, near the National Museum of Australia. Yes, I did visit the museum which is the first time since 2016… I think. A lot has changed since then. After this, I headed just up the road to the Botanic Gardens to find the Labs around the area. Nice easy going and great fun. It was then time to head home. TB visit on all caches. I would like to thank all CO’s for the caches I found and for allowing them to bring enjoyment to the caching community. TFTC’s and TFTE’s Big Grin
P.S. I am hosting two CITO’s before the end of the year. The first being: TAR and CITO #4 (GC9J99Z) on 29 November 2021. The second being: Boxing Day CITO #2 (GC9J9AX) on 26 December 2021. Hope to see you there! Big Grin

Quick wander around the edge of the lake from the museum past the adorable feral rabbits munching the grass. Pretty windy today!

#GA5071 - 14:20; A caching mission with Sol de lune and Smittengranny was planned a couple of weeks ago and the day had arrived. We had a heap of GCA caches and trigs along with a smattering of GC caches as well. We had covered Belconnen, Hall, Gungahlin, North Canberra and the foothills of Mt Ainslie. It was nice to reach the shores of Lake Burley Griffin for this trig and a bit of cool breeze on a rather warm day for caching. If this is 2, I wonder where 1 is? I was out caching with Sol de Lune and LuckyL10N today. A great day thanks to all the work SDL did preparing for this adventure. There was a mixture of GC and GCA caches - trads, multis, mysteries, trigs, virtuals and podcaches . Not all of us needed to find all the caches but there were enough to keep us all busy and very satisfied with the day's efforts. It has been very hot and I think we were all happy to call it a day when we did.
Apologies for the generic logs and big thanks to all the COs for placing and maintaining the caches. The logs were all signed as required or photographed if that was what was needed. ClappingClappingClappingClan CerberusClan Cerberus

We found this point while walking around the lake, looks like a modern pillar trig to me and similar to some of the others I have found around Canberra with the locked lid over the thread plug. looking on the ACT survey marks there are a few more around the lake that have pillars but I won't log list them until I have seen them to be sure, maybe on my next trip if someone doesn't beat me to it.
