Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station and photograph the GZ.
Official Code: TS6772
Official Name: Station Creek
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property, and permission to access the trig is not forthcoming, or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.
Access: 4WD to Station Creek. Can continue onto Pebble Beach Camping area if you'd like a drive along the beach and if the tide is low. Follow Yuraygir Coastal Walk north and bush bash your way to the top ot the hill when you get within 250m.

I arrived in the area during a low tide so managed to drive to just a few hundred metres from GZ. The way in was lovely and I was the only one on the beach driving. Arriving at Pebbly Beach Campground I made a mental note to never stay here on a Friday or weekend! It was packed. Definitely not my style of camping. I found somewhere to park at the edge of the campground then wandered up the Yuraygir Coastal track. When I got to around 280m from GZ I noted that it looked not very dense and a likely good route but continued on until I hit 200m. I decided to backtrack and head up from the 280m point. It didn’t take long to arrive at GZ as it was a nice gentle slope and easy terrain. If the Trig area was clear it would be a great view. Unfortunately it’s quite dense bush at this point. I didn’t see the Trig until I was right next to it. Images taken. The way back I just walked down in a straight line until the track and wandered back to the geo-van. I spotted a red-bellied black snake on the way out but it was camera shy and I wasn’t quick enough to get decent images. I’ve seen a few snakes recently. Winter is nearly over. Thanks for the cache
It was a cold morning and it was one of my days off so I lay in bed awake for 3 hours looking out my window watching the light bring colour to the world. It revealed a rather fine looking day and I was trying to decide how to spend it when the answer popped up on my phone.
I too had this unlisted trig on my radar. A year ago when visiting another trig nearby I had considered trying to find this one also but didn't have the right vehicle. And I'm glad because finding this with a great friend was much more enjoyable. It was a fun walk. I found myself grinning from ear to ear almost the whole walk.
Station Creek Campground seemed like a very relaxing place to camp but I wouldn't bring my non-4wd caravan here, but definitely my tent. We wandered through some sand dunes onto the beach and followed the waters edge to the knee deep crossing to Pebbly Beach which was, funnily enough, very pebbly. This campground was very nice but definitely 4wd access only, driving along the beach and through the creek to get here. Beach views from your bedroom! One fella had set up his kitchen in front of his tent looking down over the beach and ourselves as he cooked lunch. Very nice!
Onward and upward we went till we reached the trig with great ocean views. A couple of whales were spotted, and a few signatures on the post including one from "today" but not really today. I found a weird looking mushroom that looked like a giant hollow toasted marshmallow. Closer inspection revealed blue pvc glue inside. It was an old cap from the trig. This was a cool find. More melted pvc was found but no vanes unfortunately. Judging by the marking on the post this must have melted in a fire some time before 1984.
We walked back around the headland. Maybe barefoot wasn't such a good idea, but my feet got a good massage and exfoliation. Haha. The geology was fascinating though. Layers of dark grey possibly basalt rock turned on their sides. But the layers varied from 1m to 1mm so I'm not sure if it could have been formed from a volcano. Although painful, I loved this bit still.
Such a great day out! I'm very grateful I was invited to join the adventure. I always love adventuring with Mr Rx.
We drove on into Station Creek Camp Area and parked the car. There were a few muddy sections on the road in, and a good-sized puddle to drive through. A 4WD would be advisable for this road. It was low tide, so we could have driven the car further into the Pebble Beach camp area, but we were up for a walk today.
Pebble Beach looks like such a nice spot to camp – I think I’d prefer it here than Station Creek – only because of the beach frontage. We walked the length of the beach and then up onto the grassy track that forms part of the Yuraygir Coastal Walk. It wasn’t long and it was time to try and find a way up to the top of the hill. We decided to backtrack to an area that seemed like a good place to leave the path, and after pushing uphill about 250m we came out at the Trig.
The trig is in good condition – and there are some nice views of the ocean up here. I imagine when the hill was cleared there would have been some amazing 360 degree views. We made our way down to the beach, which seemed more direct and easier – apart from a few boggy bits, then made our way over the rocks on the beach, which were quite sharp in places, then back to Pebble Beach.
A great day out with great company with unbeatable weather.
