Description

Port Macquarie TS3786

The official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Port Macquarie.

Serial number: TS3786.

Last inspected: May 4, 1979.

Elevation: 119 meters.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Some nice, albeit obscured views from here ... worth making the detour.

16-Jan-22
Our last trig, even our last GA find at all in Port, almost a bit sad.... we popped up here whilst finding a few roadside/shortwalk GC caches in the area... nice views, pity about the graffiti....

20-Dec-21
The kids are doing some trig hunting while stopping at Port Macquarie for breakfast. Headed up here on the way out of town. Dad gave everyone a bum-steer after by focussing too much on the radio towers. Luckily Mum doesn't listen to Dad very often. Plenty of graffiti.

found while visiting Port Macquarie area from Maitland

23-Oct-20
been here before... didn't look for this though... all good, found now.

06-Jan-20
Came to PMQ to hand over some Dual turntables and had a great time finding all the trigs. Once the trigs were done, I concentrated on traditional caches. Trigs come first!

07-Sep-19
Grabbed the snap of the green trig marker and then wandered up on to the lookout. Not too bad views but a lot is obscured by the trees.
Thanks.

#GA3862 - 08:00; On the way home from the Gold Coast with the geohoney and we stopped for the night at Port Macquarie. Decided to collect a few of the local caches on an earlyish morning run. After grabbing a trig close to the hotel and some more caches at Tacking Point, this was the third stop for the mission. Just about to get out of the geomobile and had to move it a bit further along to let a garbage truck through, before making my way to the trig and grabbing a coupole of snaps. Out and about with Tassie Trekkers caching around Port Macquarie and surrounds and we stopped to photograph this trig. A drive by. A shame it has been defaced. TFTT

Heading into Port Macquarie for a stop over and lunch on the way home. First time in the area and I managed to snap 7 trigs all up. Gotta be happy with that.

Great lookout, worth a visit.....

Out and about today hunting down all the trigs around Port. This one was a straightforward "find".

30-Sep-17
easy drive up to the top of the hill. The view from the lookout is still a nice one over port Macquarie even with the trees and towers obscuring the picture

27-Mar-17
I was up in Port Macquarie for a family reunion, so a chance to grab some caches too. This one was on the list.

Found with The Happy Walker on an afternoon of coffee and caching. cool lookout. Bit windy today. I was going to take my photo with two galahs on the line in the background but they flew away when I went to take the photo. Smile

Staying in Port for the night on the way back to Sydney. Drove up and to this trig as there was a mystery cache close by. Some nice views here. Took some photos. Done. Nice to do some Trigs from out of my area Dancing

03-Oct-12
Took some pics while here locating a nearby GC puzzle.
Great views for here.

A nice easy trig while touring north. As per previous finders the nearby rubbish bin provided a handy tripod, self timer shot attached.

08-May-12
Up here for the Ironman Triathlon. This was close to the other nearby trig. So I took a quick detour to the top of this hill where the trig point was found quickly.

25-Jul-10
Nice easy drive by (or around) trig point.

17-Apr-10
Transit Hill used to have fantastic views over the town of Port Macquarie, but now the trees have grown and there are only snippets of what used to be.

From the photo that we took you can just see where we live!

15-Mar-10
Arrived as the sun was setting, am surprised at the clarity of the photo. Has part of the local garbage bin in it as that was all I could find to sit it on and use the self timer. Next time I will pack the tripod. Great views from up here thanks.

21-Oct-09

26-Sep-09
Found with FlyingPigSquadron during a windy sandstorm so we were unable to see the view.

The FlyingPigSquadron has landed!
Would have been great views had it not been for the dust storms.
