Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.
Addtional Information
Name: Mooball
Official Code: TS5927
Access: Area is fenced with most gates into the area locked. Best way in is to park at: S28 24.520 E153 33.511. This is the end of Kellehers Road. Walk around the gate and 150m down the track up to S28 24.517 E153 33.427. At this point there's a decent sized hole in the fence that allows you to pass through and make your way to the trig.
Logs
We followed the access advice from Kellehers, and were quickly behind the houses on some MTB tracks which led us straight to the trig.
I followed the advice and was soon at the prize. I wonder if this land here will be cleared for housing? The pole and disks are gone which is common nowadays. The concrete pillar and nameplate are in good condition. I would love to paint this one. This is my 2nd Trig visit out of 12 today. Thanks for the generous instructions MattyRx and thanks for the cache.
I found a faster way by parking at the end of Kellehers Road, then walking down further about 150 meters, where I found a hole in the fence that was easy enough to get through. The area close to the fence was slashed, so the walk uphill towards the trig was easy. I noticed that there was a bike track well carved into the hill just inside the forested area, so walked up that. It led me to the trig. No post or fins on this one – the name plate in intact though.
It was nice to find a new trig in my local area
