A CORS is a Continuously Operating Reference Station. CORS can take the place of a traditional base station used in differential GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) positioning. In a geodetic context, CORS form an integral component of the nation’s geospatial infrastructure. The primary purpose of geodetic CORS is to collect data to measure and monitor the movement of the continent so that the reference frame and datum can be defined, improved, and maintained for geoscience and spatial datasets. CORS also support additional downstream applications such as major infrastructure projects, asset management, resource and emergency management, machine guidance, intelligent transport systems, precision agriculture and environmental research.
