Hobwee

This Trig Station is on the summit of Mount Hobwee in Lamington National Park on the QLD / NSW border and has TS IDs for both states. It was installed 16 April 1973 by QLD Department of Mapping & Surveying.

QLD Trig Station ID# 412 (QTS 412)

NSW Trig Station ID# 6108 (TS6108)

Mark number: 36152

When this Trig Station was contructed, National Parks would not allow ANY trees or foliage to be removed. A helicopter was used to bring in aluminium and wooden station components. When built, the station was higher than the forest canopy. This was how the beacon was utilised.

22-Aug-22
I’ve visited Mount Hobwee twice. Once via Numinbah and once via Binna Burra. Due to the vegetation there’s not much to see at GZ but don’t let that dampen the achievement of arriving at this summit. Any route here is a splendid day out in this stunning part of the world. Great views along the way with beautiful surroundings, the sounds, it’s just a great area to be immersed in. BUT, if it’s a wet day then you will most certainly have leech issues. The Trig point here is currently a simple bench mark. The initial large structure would have been a grand sight! The survey sketch references Bilbrough which is also well worth a visit (TP1099), a fine Trig. I’ve planned another nearby hike to this GZ so will divert slightly and return here to get an updated GPS image sometime in the next few months. I'll also try to find any remnants of the original structure. Images and log updated soon. Thanks for the cache.
