Description

Large rock cairn, but no evidence of the vanes nearby. The area below the trig has been flattened and cleared. It looks very different from the satellite image used in SIXmaps.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape.
Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

We had been away rock climbing at Mt Arapiles near Horsham. Unfortunately my climbing partner had an injury that lead us to not be able to finish our week of climbing and we were looking for another way to make the trip home longer and more interesting so we decided to get a string of trigs and caches on the way. I had the topo map running on my phone whilst driving and spotted this as we got close. a quick drive up and a quick walk we found this interesting pile of rocks to take a photo of. kind of a strange area and not really sure if it was private property or not but we snuck in and out without seeing any sign of other people.

Spotted this one on the SIXmaps and wondered about whether there was public access. There is a geocache about 20 metres away, which I could not locate, so guess it is okay to be here. There has been some work down below, as the area has been cleared and flattened. There are hundreds of bee hives in along to tracks leading up to the area.
