Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to. They are usually marked by a beacon set vertically above a durable ground mark.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

We started at about 11am on a solid track. I was surprised how dry it was considering the recent rains. Our first stop was Mount Cordeaux Lookout just after 12. It was quite busy here so we didn’t stay long, just long enough to admire the views on this clear day. The weather was perfect for this walk, clear and dry. The track from this point was muddier but nothing too bad. You could tell it’s less used. Another hour and we were at Bare Rock. The views here are much bigger and better than the previous lookout. A great vantage point East and West. A sunrise or sunset would be impressive from this location.
I found the new trig mark. It's a shame the 10-and-a-half-foot cairn and pole setup is gone as it would have been a splendid sight on this location. Now let's find the old GC Traditional cache.. this wasn't as easy.. I climbed down the side of Bare Rock and stood there checking coordinates.. I looked down in front of me and realised I was standing about a foot away from a huge python. How did I not see this thing!? I jumped back startled but then relaxed as it didn’t seem upset at my presence. When I tried to walk around though it got a little agitated so I decided (after photos haha) to climb back up and around then down another way. Turned out the snake was about 3m away from GZ. Time for a break.
I recently bought a number of items that mean I no longer have to compromise on coffee while on a trail or camping. My new VSSL Java Hand Grinder provides freshly ground beans every time I feel like a great coffee, regardless of where I am. With help of my Jetboil Stash and other ‘tools’, two perfect coffees were made, two very satisfied recipients. There were snacks as well but that’s less important haha.
The walk back was an easy and pleasant downhill all the way. This time we stopped at a lookout near the car park with an information board explaining we were standing on the remnants of a volcano that was active 24 million years ago!
A lovely walk with good company that ended with a geology lesson. I’m happy with today, thanks for the cache
