Description
This is a TrigPoint Cache. There are no physical geocache containers with logbooks or swap items relating to this cache here. To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the TrigPoint, along with your GPS receiver or your geocaching name on something or yourself.
Misery (B701)
Summit of Mount Misery.
Original installation in 1920, a shell case set in concrete.
Current status: A fire damaged stake sits inside a rock annulus with a nearby star picket used as a witness post. The survey notes mention the star picket was once red and white. Those days are long gone.
-----
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.
-----
Access: Go to the end of Regal Drive. Between the trig and road is all private property but at the moment there is no construction. Do not take your vehicle into this property. Walk west to around S28° 01.006' E153° 8.684' where you can follow a ridge line west to a saddle. From the saddle progress north to the trig. There is some boulder-hopping from the saddle but nothing difficult. Return same route. About 5km return, allow 3 hours. Even though a fire recently removed some lantana there is still a lot to get through.
I'll be keeping an eye on this location. If I notice any construction in the property I will archive this cache.
Logs
What I do know is that I was close to some misery on the way down from this mountain when I realised a fire had started!
