Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Cruising around the McLaren Vale area and took the opportunity to grab the photo to log this gtrig, TFTT

13-Jul-19
Came down to McLaren Vale to taste some wine and find a couple of trigs.

04-Mar-19
Nice view of hills, vineyards and ocean from this small hilltop. Survey marker under sand in centre of the three posts. Holes in ground by which animal, perhaps achidna?

During my trip to Adelaide achieved 4x FTF's (GA), picked up a dozen moveables; plus the highlight being my D/T grid (GC) now filled after finding one up a tree.
Huge THANK YOU to local cachers: J&J, Laighside Legends, andrewbt, Atreyu1982, Blackadders, OzGrumpy, weredunn4 & Jacknor whom all contributed towards my success.
What an adventure, visiting: Adelaide CBD, Showground, Glenelg & Seacliff Holdfast Bay, McLaren Vale, Onkaparinga, Hawthorndene, Carrick Hill, Kensington Park, Teringie, Prospect, Elizabeth, Port Adelaide, Garden Island, Gawler, Nuriootpa Barrossa; and an impressive collection of planes at Greenock Aviation Museum!

Some scrabbly scratching around was required to unearth the beast..... But Whheels poked and I fluffed the dirt away and yea - we beheld the trig point!

First find for the day on a cruise around Mc Laren Vale with Glo18 to get some goodies towards GeosportZ2018.

We acted a little like rabbits to uncover the Survey Marker, but did no more damage than that. Excavating the marker was almost as rewarding as digging for opals in Andamooka years ago!

TFTC GCA.

Looks a little like the tree has overgrown the trig Mr. Green

We've visited this trig a couple of years ago, but didn't log anything because we couldn't actually see the trig. On closer inspection today we realise the three footings for the marker are still there, so I'm guessing there's a horizontal control marker buried under the dirt in the centre.

We were surprised at the extent of the views from this location - great place to get some perspective of the coastal areas. Although there wasn't a beacon nor trig point marker (there were plenty of rabbit burrow entrances), a survey marker peg confirmed the existence and location of the trig point. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: the first is of the survey marker location plaque; and the second shows Mrs y'stassie at GZ. Thanks Geocaching Australia for the cache.

14-Jan-16
Follow the vines, listen to the pistol shots, and observe the kangaroos in the National park which is only metres away from this spot. Very Happy

20-Nov-11
Found along with a few other trig points while in the area. The actual trig marker is gone, but the concrete bases and corner poles are there. Cheers from Featherwaite.

17-Apr-11
Found this one while one a drive through the Southern Vales. No overhead beacon, just a survey mark and some blue poles. Great views from here. TFT-TP.

29-Jan-11
found the blue pole bent over

Nice quick find and great view over the Onk.

Found the survey mark too... Thanks...

Ditto The Stanleys, always a nice area to visit!

An easy find right by the side of the road. Have been this way a couple of times before to pick up nearby traditional caches. Remember well the burn at the back of the legs when climbing back up the track along the pipeline.
No real trig here, just blue poles and the survey mark.
