Description

Sunny Corner TS6036

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Sunny Corner

Serial number is: TS6036.

Last Inspected on: April 7, 1989.

Elevation is: 1271 metres.

Trig is a concrete pedestal with mast and vanes.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Trig looks pretty good but we didn't get too close once the nearby house was in sight just over the hill. TFTC.

The Fire Tower trig had been logged some time back but with the undergrowth and my confusion this was eventually abandoned. A subsequent log, and a chat with rogerw3, brought me back to below the tower.

A couple of missed turns and then a Garmin indicated way to go. Leaving the GeoReindeer and walking the side road (unsure as to where it might go) for a short walk this eventually lead to a cacher track to follow. Suddenly the trig came into view and while beelining towards it very nearly became entangled in the barb wire fence. Not prepared to cross the boundary to view and capture the nameplate, there was still a clear photo opportunity for this trig.

Instincts told me to go that way, but the app wanted me back at the car. I know why now. It took me around the property on which the trig sits, with a good 300 or more metres for the photo. It looked like I was on the right track before, so I drove back up to the fire tower and walked the rest. It is on private property, but a good photo can be taken from Crown land. There is a gap in the fence, but I didn't want to disrespect the landowners.

Mudgee trip 2013. After crossing one fallen tree I was not sure if I would make it to this one. Then it was still over a fence with some cows. Another good trig. Thanks
