Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

If I thought getting into TP1195 was exciting, this really topped today's 4WD experience. We managed to get most of the way without engaging 4WD, but that last little pinch encouraged TG47 to reach for the dial/switch.We did it easily enough and were rewarded with great views at GZ.

Thanks for publishing this trig Geocaching Australia that encouraged us to come up here to see the view. DancingDancingClan CerberusClan Cerberus

Headed to outback NSW with fitzy_1965 and albida33 for a caching holiday.

Drive from Cobar to Broken Hill today. Stopped at Willcania for lunch.

Albida33 got to use his 4wding skills to make this a drive by. Fantastic views up here for our first glimpse of Broken Hill.

West New South Wales trip 2020. Day 3. I was joined by MinnieK and Fitzy_1965 for a trip planned to go from
Goulburn to Forbes, Nyngen, Cobar, Broken Hill, Wentworth and Balranald. Today we left Cobar having found all
the local caches yesterday. It was a long straight drive to Broken Hill with a few caches scatterd along the way,
plus a dual multi in Wilcannia along with a short sharp outback rainshower. We ended the day with an evening
tour of Earthcaches around Broken Hill.

This trig seemed near the road, but was in fact a short short climb up to the top in the car. Once we were up is
was a great place to view the surrounds, the trig station itself was freshly painted and in good condition, but
the plaque is long gone.

Thanks
Albida

While spending a few days in Broken Hill we are also attempting some of the local caches.
After enjoying lunch at the nearby Outback Resort we drove in to grab this one. We walked the last 200 metres.

What fantastic views we could see from here

Others found a GC cache up here – not anymore – drove up here, like usual harder way up – easer may down – it’s very nice view up here – looks like the nearby landscape has changed since last log with a photo.

While grabbing a nearby GC cache I saw and photographed this trig station. It didn't have a name plate on it that I remember, so did a search of the nearby caches of See Ya Round!
Thanks

Came up Round Hill in the early morning after the GC cache and grabbed this one as a bonus.

Quick walk up to some great views.

Looks like I'm the first to walk up the hill to claim the trig. Actually, I was there for the cache, but the trig was the first thing I saw, naturally. It was a really hot day (about 45 degrees, apparently) and I really suffered on this short climb. I took a few photos of the trig, found the cache and then stumbled back down as fast as I could.

Can't believe we are only the second to get this trig. The trusty motorbike got us up there but we did fall off coming back down. Thanks.

While finding a nearby GC cache found this trig point a little vandalised but the 4wd track up to the top of the hill was challenging and rocky but well worth it, great views over the nearby mine and views across Broken Hill, photo taken with phone TFTP
