Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Was 4WD'ing today, and Coree was on the list. Arrived at Trig point, it had people under it, so I captured the plaque next to it instead

20-Oct-15
The highest trig point that I've found to date. An epic battle to get to it from the south side, only the return trip was harder! Fantastic spot, even in the fog, which dissipated rather quickly today. Thanks!

08-Sep-14
Grabbed a selfie while "clambering" all over this hill. Great views with some great spring weather up here today.

25-May-14
Great day out finally making it to this location. I have heard of this place for years but never seemed to be going in the right direction at the right time. But a friend had a itch to head out so I was only more than willing to grab a couple of other-wise hard-to-get-to caches.

30-Sep-13
Found on MajuraHathi's birthday.
Found with the family, the chump at the right is the birthday boy. Thanks to Noikmeister for the inspiration to come and find this cache.
Cheers

Have been going through the pictures on my GPS and found a few trigs where I took the picture, but never logged them.. EmbarassedEmbarassed

So, no idea when exactly this was, but I was there....

Found in 2006 before Geocaching, happened to have taken a photo.

29-Feb-12
Making a claim on this one as others have done. Was up here for the nearby GC cache with fitzy_1965, Big Matt and FarmerFrentzen.

Freezing cold for a summers day, but that's how it goes.

Another ACT trig crossed off......

An epic day caching in the Mountains with Big Matt, FarmerFrentzen and SDL - and the drive up to find Lonely Cache up here on Mount Coree was a real highlight !! Can't comment on the views as there wasn't any that day !!

TFTC !!

01-Apr-11
catching up on early trig visits in the days when the GPS was only that, and it did not have a camera!

Visited this on 16 December 2008 when finding the Lonely Cache. Thought I was going to kill us as it was my first real 4x4. Experience. Great views though and highly recommended.

thanks for the trig.

15-Jan-11
Grabbed this today although with the low cloud the fantastic views up here were not evident. Sad

03-Jan-11
Found this one while up here doing a nearby cache. As we got up there you couldnt see the tower and the trig. A real gorilla in the mist!

30-Dec-10
A great way to start the days caching. Had a little bit of a heart-starter on the road in, someone has had heaps of fun gouging huge ruts at the start of the raod so we had to go around them - not all that easy but we made it. A fun drive up to some of the best vistas followed and we made it down in one peice then it was off to the next cache.

16-May-10
A day out in the Brindabellas with Newberys, TienHua and the geokids hunting down caches. Great views - couldn't ask for more! Vies go in well with coffee and custard tarts. Yum!

09-May-10
Went for a drive with AnnaS, Sean and Ko, giving my new 4x4 a little bit of a try out.
TFTT, while finding the nearby Lonely Cache - will post photo shortly.

05-Oct-09
In the spirit of previously visited spots I was here on 11/3/06. Albida

20-Sep-09
I visited this trig in the company of secret squirrel back in May 2009. Finally getting around to logging the find. Picture attached. It's one of the most enjoyable trig caches I have done - fantastic spot.

I Agree with Squirrels comments below (+ a few extra comments of my own)
When I first started caching, I often didn't carry a camera, (Digital cameras did not exist)and visited many trigs whilst caching. I also visited many trigs BEFORE geocaching even existed, when I was riding my Mountain bike/s in the 1990's, so all recent finds.
I actually visited this trig point on 8/5/2000 with full camping gear and my MTB (picture attached), 26/1/2004 chasing the Lonely Cache (after the 2003 fires - picture attached again) and again, 20/6/2009 chasing Coree Clamber cache with TankEngine. (picture again)

19+1560=1579 with Captain Tomato

From now on, I will definitely be carrying a camera at every trig point I visit. I really support the introduction of TrigPoint "caches" because there are usually great views from such highpoints and it is particularly applicable in certain parks.

When I first started caching, I often didn't carry a camera, and visited many trigs whilst caching.

However, whether the thought police like it or not, I intend to claim every trig that I visited since starting caching at the beginning of 2007. As evidence, I will either post the photo if I have one, or reference the cache that I visited nearby, or name another cacher who can vouch for me being there.

I took the photo of this trigpoint on 2/5/2009 after a really enjoyable bushwalk in the company of Captain Tomato. I actually had been here many months earlier to find "Lonely Cache" nearby
