Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Tough hike but a rewarding cache and trig at the end made it all worth it. But you definatly don't come up here for the view. Smile

Paris bear bags Mt Dromedary (Gulaga) trig. It is a steep, steep walk up, then along the saddle, then up, up to the summit. Quite damp and slippery underfoot, but managed not to fall over, nor attract any leeches.

A steep 5.5 Km walk from Pam's store in Tilba Tilba. Took me a couple of hours each way. Too many trees at the summit, views are better along the track on the way.

Found after a steep walk. Have been here twice before before logging trigs was a thing. Will complete log with photos when home again.

Great couple of hours out; pity about the trees blocking what would be an outstanding view!

03-Jan-11
Changed the name as per the plaque on the trig itself.

A great walk up to Mt Dromedary (aka Mt Gulaga). There were masses of fallen trees and many had been cut to clear the track. There was a big one whose root ball was right on the track and it had smashed down the signs. It turned out to be right at the spot where you make the final ascent to the summit, so we passed it by and had to back track to find the initial steps. The path after this was quite hard to follow and thankfully someone had put red tape every 15 metres or so to enable us to follow it.

Stopped in at the cafe at Foxglove Gardens for 2 milkshakes and the best coffee I have had in ages. A fantastic start to NYE.

Track to the peak may be closed per info obtained in respect of the GC cache - Tor.

Quote: On 19 Sept 10 we were ready to do the walk but the National Parks and Wildlife Service have only opened the track to the saddle, not to the peak. The ranger expected that it would take a couple of weeks

Later.... so we had an expedition planned for 9/10 October. But the ranger said Nup - try in mid-November Sad

Conquered this mountain, and the trig in 1970! Here's a pic of me at the trig! Does that count as a find?
