A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

Great views from the trig, but still lots of smoke haze.
Appropriate to bag a trig the day before starting work at Spacial Services.
Lambie and Lambie Old have been on the 'mushroom agenda for an age - a previous visit halted before the gate. An oft passed, with regret, side road there was no hesitation for a revisit, though the road was heavily rutted after recent rains.
With the error of my ways - the gate is chained, not locked - pointed out by rogerw3, it then made for the walk up the good track towards the towers and the trig tucked back towards the treeline. In good condition complete with vanes, mast and nameplate with Lambie Old within metres, though oddly, not within the rockpile. Great views in all directions and would have been impressive without the comms towers aclutter.
Got lost trying to find the end of the road afterwards! But we got to see some kangaroos!
