Description

Wybung TS4868

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Wybung.

Serial number is: TS4868.

Last Inspected on: June 1990.

Elevation is: 97.81 metres.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

Logs

I stayed the night at a camp nearby the night before finding this trig. I cooked my dinner on my gas burner by moonlight - no need for anything more it was so bright and the sky so clear. The only sounds were the murmurs of a few people chatting nearby and the waves in the distance. It was so peaceful. Was a shame to be rudely awoken with the 6am realisation the showers there were cold water only. I decided to warm up again with my car heater and a drive to a lookout of headland to watch the sun rise. I found this lookout and trig just after the sun rose, brewed myself a coffee and enjoyed the views. Pic of view also attached. Gorgeous weather too!

On a day outing with friends sightseeing in the area. Not really thinking about geocaching. Saw a man standing on a concrete pillar taking photos of the views.
Think to my self - "hey, that is a trig point" - better pull over and have a closer look.
The find was too easy.

Access to these two trigs is very easy and the roads, though bumpy, as good for any vehicle.

A day's adventure seek with rogerw3 of listed, and unlisted but hoped to be discovered still in place, trigs on the coastal side of Lake Macquarie.

An easy drive on good road to this hilltop. Wybung trig is partly surrounded with low shrubbery that obscures the vast expanse of the coast but metres away ... with excellent views! In good condition with mast and vanes, but sadly sans name plate.

Out and about with Whitemushroom on a trig expedition along the Central Coast.

An easy find right next to the road, still in great condition except for the missing name plaque.

We were there at 9.50am. Just love this area and we had one of our best caching experiences just nearby at Wybung.

Found the trig station whilst heading down to the now archived Wybung cache. A quick stop to log this one with The-Don.
