Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Sophoutloud and I are on a bit of a road trip on our way to Lennox Head for a conference, it gave us an excuse to have a mini holiday and take a few days to get there. So for us that always means finding caches and trigs on our travels. This trip so far has been great as we have had the chance to visit a bunch of beautiful Northern New South Wales Beach towns. Being the off season they have been pretty quiet and even though it is June, much warmer than at home in the Hawkesbury. We ducked into Queensland today to get a few things for the 4wd, I spied this hill and its trigs a few weeks ago as i headed south and made a note to come back. it was a pretty busy day up here (saturday during school holidays) so we didnt hang around too much. we had a quick look around and a drive and headed on our way. pretty great views of the city from up here, it would be quite amazing to catch it at sunrise

Got him today.... we had a go at a nearby technical tree climb, which turned out to be just throwline practice (we need practice!)... dropped back here and corrected our DNF from last visit.

Bugger - we missed this - we were thinking it must have been the tower.... we'll get it on another trip....

We have been up here many times for other caches and never realised this was here TFTC

On route to the One Tree Hill Trig and decided to visit this one and the Tower Trigs on the way. Such a shame we can no longer get close to this one. Oh well, image taken. Thanks for the cache.

I made my way behind the fences to get the best view of this Trig Point and then took the required photo.
It will certainly be busy on the roads around here tomorrow with the cycle tour of Brisbane happening.

Thanks for the smiley Geocaching Australia Very Happy

Out and about in Brisbane for a day of caching and this was the next stop. Parked down the bottom and took the short walk up the hill to where the trig is in behind the fence. Grabbed the required photo and then head towards the GABBA...

This morning we located the trig point at The Summit. Recent works have included the installation of high cyclone wire fences around two new water tanks and, unfortunately, the trig point marker is now contained within one of the fences. We were, however, able to get within 5m of the trig point marker, a cylindrical concrete column which presumably has the brass button on top. A photo has been added to the Gallery. Thanks Geocaching Australia for the cache.

Heading to Mt Cootha with a friend from Byron Bay to enjoy the views of Brisbane from above. We took the scenic route so Mrs THR can see where all the TV stations were based. Made the hike up to the trig point. The journey was tricky due to the fences but we stopped it. TFTTp GCA

On a circuit of the mountain picking up a few stray caches and I took a short walk up the hill to log a find on this trig.

It certainly is a popular spot for towers.

Is this the real summit? Loved the nearby shower set up behind the chain wire.

Shame the disc is missing from the post. An easy TP to visit right off the main drive.

Beautiful afternoon. Found the pillar after a short walk from Sir Samuel Griffith Drive. Looks like the actual disc has disappeared though, so I hope it still counts as a find.

The main drag was quite busy at the time!
