Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Out and about caching in the area and snapped this one. Required pic added to the gallery.

Found this trig marker while in the Minlaton area. We have noted with interest that the roads to the communications towers in South Australia are not locked as they tend to be in Tasmania so we were able to drive up the road and park close to the tower and nearby trig point.

All in good order. Found with Felixll

South Australia 2013 with Sol de Lune. We headed off on 12/4 and arrived home on 28/4. The trip was to visit the SA series so more time could be spent at the Mega itself next year. We did a huge variety of caching around Murray Bridge, the Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and Whyalla Region. Apart from one wet night and two wet days we were able to spend heaps of time caching.

One of Plenty of trigs we saw on this trip. I hope I get the right picture on each trig.

Thanks.

Couldn't help but notice the filthy great Telstra Mobile tower from the road but failed to notice the garden variety Trig Station hidden amongst the shrubbery.

Ooops! There is a garden variety trig marker in amongst the shrubbery. Embarassed

Mrs J spotted it on the drive up the easement. Getting a good clear picture of it was a little tricky. Had to stand with the compound between us and trig.

Plenty cows on the paddock but they didnt come to us phew!!!. Lovely weather for a walk. Found Trig but no suvery marker. Thanks.

21-Feb-10
Found only trig but cant find the survey marker. Only approx 150 mts from the road. The gate isnt lock - easy walk. Thanks.

"Didn't see any garden variety Trig Station here, but there is a filty great Telstra Mobile tower. Is this monstrosity loggable?"

Sure, why not. If you can find the survey marker, that would be beneficial, but it likely that the tower is now the TrigPoint as it will be in a position to be seen from many miles away.
