Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Does it get any better than travelling this great land of ours?

Thanks for the cache and apologies for the late log. Clapping

06-Sep-17
Arrived in Mildura with Caravan in tow - trig number 5 for the day and a very impressive water tower.

30-Aug-17
A trig point in the middle of town, you don't get that very often, and to top it of it is quite a unique design as well!
A very picturesque structure indeed. Had a nice little wander around the base of the tower, tried the gates but they were naturally locked and took the required pictures Mr. Green
Cheers

#GA1421 - 17:00; Day two of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune was now well underway heading from Balranald to Mildura via Wentworth and Pooncarie. We had now crossed into Victoria and were continuing to collect a few trigs and other caches as the day drew to a close. The road was closed, but still good a couple of snaps of the tower. Leaving Mildura, I wandered around the city and found some caches.

09-Jul-16
BernieH and I had a few minutes to spare before we had to do to the 4 months to the Surf Coast Event BBQ we were up here to run, to that was just the perfect amount of time for a cache or two, or in this cache, a Water Tower trig point. At first we thought the one in the hotel car park closer to the river was the one we were after, but then we saw this proper one and we had no doubt.

28-Jun-16
A nice water tower.

13-Sep-15
One of the nicest water tower trigs we have ever come across. You can't see the antennas at the top because of the angle that the photo was taken from but Mr beetle is at the bottom holding the GPS. Thanks.

Up in Mildura last weekend, this trig was visible from our motel room doorway. One photo from there, one as I close as I could get.

11-Oct-13
Found during our overnight stay here. Only a few hundred meters from our motel.

An easy find while stopping at Mildura for lunch.

13-Apr-13
One of many many trigs found by Albida and myself while on our 2 week trip to, and around South Austrlia. Cant get real close to this one, but it's like that with the tower ones.

Thanks for yet another trig.....we managed just over 30 for the trip.

04-Jan-13
The trig is atop a water tower and you can only see it by backing off a distance. McPhan took this really good photo almost completely obscured by sun flare, and the trig circle can just be seen on the lip of the tower.

04-Jan-13
Got closer than the photo indicates but then you can't see the trig so retreated for the photo.

TFTT and the lancer.

28-Nov-12
A pretty neat drive-by cache if you choose. Reminds me of a similar although much more imposing tower in Newcastle Laughing

07-Jun-12
In this instance we certainly could not get right to the trig point marker and be in touch with the marker when the photos was taken. So, we adopted local custom and took the photo with one of us standing at the base of the water tower (can be seen as the micro person at the base of the tower). TFTC

The only time I was close enough to take a shot it was pitched black.

This structure is an awesome space ship hovering out of the sky.

Very Happy

04-Mar-12
We had been looking at the tower and didn't realise it was a trig point! Staying nearby on our road trip from Tassie.

20-Sep-11
Staying here at the Quest which is right next door to this trig. It must be one of the largest trigs I have come across so far! Will upload photo when I get back to Canberra.

18-Aug-11
I'm surprised someone hasn't renamed this as the Mildura water Tower trig. Good place to start off The Big Trig

05-Jul-11
Another quick "find" although the TP indicators cannot be seen from this position - yep, they're on the top of the tower.

30-Dec-10

16-Apr-10
I actually took a few goes to realise this is were I was going. Oh well, more of Mildura explored. Albida.

10-Jan-10
This point is definitely at the water tower. Not sure of the SV posts indicate Survey Marker??? The Merbein trig seems to be at a Water Tower as well.

05-Oct-09
Looked around for this marker. we found a rod/bolt in the ground a short distance away from GZ but the accuracy was poor and it was within the acceptable distance. The other place the marker could be is inside the restricted area below a water tower.
