Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

my knee would not allow me to scale those stairs, but I could see what I wanted from below. There is the old trig pin nearby...to be published soon.

nice and easy drive up the hill to reach this lookout. one of the more easier trig points I've found thats for sure!!.. quite busy up here today, I guess lockdowns are slowly being let down..

This is an awesome little hill. Hey look, I can see The Rock and Square Head way of in the distance beyond the seemingly endless Plains. And there's my car... bugger... a reminder I have to go home now. Good to get out of Griffith for 24 hours though. Bye lookout. I shall return to walk the walks another day.

With a day off in hand plus many unfound caches still on the radar to find, I headed out to add a few more Smile to my name. I decided that I would attack the caches in or near the Galore Hill area. This ended up being a great choice because this is the type of caching I enjoy. This includes: bush walking/hiking, great views and common ‘but’ different hides. After this, I headed into Lockhart for some lunch and to avenge a few past DNF’s. I ended up with 18 finds which is made up with 14 GC and 4 GCA caches. Most caches were quick finds and there were many enjoyable types of hides which made for a great day out. TB visit on all caches. I would like to thank all CO’s for the caches I found and for allowing them to bring me and the rest of the caching community much joy. Big Grin TFTC’s Big Grin

This is one of those great places that geocaching takes you that if it was not for the cache the visit would probably not have even occurred for me so it is another smilie and another of the list for me.

A great area to visit with some terrific views. Couldn't find the traditional trig point, so took a photo at the marker at the top. TFTVC.

I've been up here a few times for caches and other trips, but decided today was worth another detour for the trig. Still love the view from the top.

Great view from the top of the tower once you dodge all the spiders!!!
Also found the original trig plug next to the tower. This would of had the rock cairn and beacon built directly over the top of it. But now the cairn is gone and the tower is the 'trig point'.
