Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

A quick find on a beautiful day in this part of the world. We've been travelling around the area using caching as our guide. Made our way to this one by an indirect route from our last find but got there. TFTC

I saw this trail of GCA caches appear about a month ago and have wanted to attempt it for quite a while. It ended up being a relaxing 3.5 hour drive around the country side. It’s nice to have a couple more GCA caches with a Big Grin on them. I found a few different dinosaurs and other different types of hides. All caches found today were quick finds and were left at its current location for the next finder to move along. Today’s finds also included a few Trig-Points finds. I would like to thank all CO’s of the caches I found today and for allowing them to bring joy to me and the rest of the caching community. TFTC’s and TFTTP’s Big Grin

Started at Bathurst bright and early for a bit of a trip down south, have a few trigs picked up to go after, got a relaxing trip as have to be back home on Saturday see how far I can go & how many trigs I can get photos of on the trip. This was the fourth & last stop on the second day took me to a trig named Wombat at Demondrille, didn’t know there was such a place and took the required photo once I found a spot to shoot from. Thanks for the trig Geocaching Australia. Hopefully there will be a few I can get closer on the trip. Clan Phoenix

Could not get very close to this one. Lucky I had the telephoto lens.

#GA2093 - 10:45; Out on a day run with Sol de lune to Cootamundra and back to collect a few more in the 'Bushranger' series, a couple of trigs plus some others. This one has been on the 'to do' list for a while now and has no doubt gained some recent prominence with the screening of the current series of 'The Block' Whistle . After a stop in Harden, we made our way to this trig and after a wander along the track keeping a careful eye out for serpents, I found a spot to grab a snap of the trig which wasn't obstructed by rocks. Mission accomplished, it was back to Sdl and the geomobile to continue our journey. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

No luck with the locals here today so grabbed some picks from the fence line.

In the Young area for work and I've been trying to track down local trigs. This one isn't too far from the road and you can get a shot of it from the fence. However after I took the shot I saw the gate open and a bloke was working so I asked if I could take a look. No problem - I was just as lucky as the previous finder. Got a shot of the trig and plaque confirming this was 'Wombat' trig and not "Kinsgsvale Area" as the listing said. There's a plug in concrete nearby which may have been the old trig - see photo.

GCA 543 - 5359. A weekend run with my kids combining caching, sightseeing and chasing a few Windmills.... Smile

A local was working nearby when we were here. I asked him if we could go up to he trig for a look and some photos and said no problems. Now I see that I'm *FTF* for this trig - interesting !
