Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Out with Chwiliwr who shook me all up on the 'short cut' track from the main road but at least took me out via a better track.

13-Apr-18
Out with the better half and drove in to find this cache and the nearby traditional cache. Sure was a rough track the way we came but was only a bit bumpy on the way out via the other track.

A bitterly blustery wind today

After finding the three GA caches to the west I headed back down Indian Ocean Dr and approached the tower via Hovea Rd a good limestone road which is due south of GZ WhistleVery Happy

Up here finding the Crocodile cache with hhheddy; otherwise nothing special about this trig point, lots of dumped tiles on track. Watch out for bees at nearby tank.

Up here with Lazarus_68 to find the trig point and the nearby AAI cache Once we located the correct track the walk in was fairly easy. Just had to be a bit wary around the water tank as there was a lot of bees going and coming out of the tank. The trig was located easily and the required photos taken through the fence.

a good physical walk from indian ocean drive, but worth the walk. It was blowing a gale and was difficult to take a picture. another trigg point of the list. Dancing

Wanted to hide a cache near this trig, so naturally visited the trig as well. Approached from the west (Waneroo Road) and had to park the Camry about 850 metres away ... I guess you would have to approach from the east to get the limestone track that comes all the way in.

Okay so I missed the limestone track on the way in aswell. Managed to reach the top on the sandy track in the Geo Cruiser, but made my way out on the nice limestone track. Previously visited this site with a 4 x 4 club and the viewing platform has been damaged/removed since our last visit. Trig point still inside the compound.

We drove up the first 150m then had to park and walk up the next 850m of a sandy track. There were a number of large piles of sand across the track on the way up the hill - obviously this track is no longer used. When we got to the top we saw the new access road. Don't know where it comes from. Great views from up here. Photographed the trig point and made our way back.

Yay, found it!!

After trying to drive in on a very soft sandy track, and getting nowhere I decided to park the car and walk the last 1km to the top of the hill. When I got to the top, found a lovely limestone road leading all the way to the top of the hill!!!!

There is a TV/Radio antenna tower at the top of the hill, and a fire lookout station, which has the survey disc set in concrete at the bottom of the tower. This is inside a fenced area, but took some photos.
