Description

Mulgoa TS7036

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Mulgoa.

Serial number is: TS7036.

Last Inspected on: April 28, 1982.

Elevation is: 243 metres.

No problem with access, start from the end of Fairlight Road park there and take the Rileys Mountain Track at the National Park gated entrance.

A trigpoint (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trigpoints are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trigpoint, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trigpoints has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trigpoints. If you believe that a trigpoint is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trigpoint or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This is an easy mtb ride, and would be a pretty easy walk. Only 2km or so from the gate. I almost missed it. It's on the left opposite the tower.

Not hard to find this Trig just follow the fire trail to Rileys Mountain lookout and go past the sign for about 100 metres and the Trig is on the left opposite the tower. Trig is in good condition with its name plate still in place. Its a pity the mast and vanes have gone seems most have gone this way. Head back and spend some time at the look out it is well worth it.

Set out along the firetrail, then found 'Mulgoa' was not loaded to the Garmin. Paced it out to Riley's Lookout ... then with the OSM printout, no difficulty discovering this Trig. A nice setting in the filtered sunlight ... nametag attached.

What a beautiful day this turned out to be, pjmpjm and i decided to start our afternoon Trig hunt here with the 2.5km walk to this nice Trig, the mast and vanes are long gone but the name plaque remains in place. Unfortunately not much exiting scenery along the track as there has been hazard reduction burning in the last couple weeks, nonetheless well worth the walk, specially if you take the time to walk the extra 50 metres to the lookout just before the Trig.

One of a number of caches and trigs logged by rogerw3 and me on our mini-expedition around the Warragamba area this afternoon.

Great walk!

We measured our trek to be 2.5 km each way, from the end of Fairlight Road, and were rewarded with a great view from the lookout near GZ.

Trig was minus its vanes but the side name plaque was still in place.

Finding this trig was probably our most interesting adventure of the day.

Not sure if this is the right Trig Sation as this one was labelled Mulgoa, and is a long way from Euroka Clearing.
