A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Logs
We were dressed for the chilly wind, so it was a nice walk out before sunrise to find this cairn that is looking a bit worse 'for wear'.
I think the last time I was in the area it was to do the Butterbox Canyon, Probably back in 2005.
So found and photographed the trig at 0720, then went on to find "Hay, Hay its…"
It seems that the rock cairn has been affected by branches falling on it, (and possibly by people) and I would love to see it get back to something like its original condition sometime.
I liked how the vegetation changed on the walk depending on the elevation and the exposure.
I also heard and partly witnessed a lyrebird doing the full-on imitation of other birds including a brilliant kookaburra imitation, a magpie and a lorikeet.
The visibility was poor - very misty. I will come back another day for the views.
Found at 1:04 pm.
A very nice easy walk along the old trail, getting quite hot but the cool wind made things a bit easier.
We got to the trig without troubles and found the cairn as expected, in very good condition considering, we even found a couple rusted bits of the original vanes.
Great views along the track on the way, well worth the walk.
This one was a good walk to get to, but has spectacular views nearby & is worth the effort to get to.
Great views both here and out at Mount hay further along the road.
Even on a pea soup kind of day it was amazing to feel like your out here on your own and the bush goes on for ever!
On the way back the boys got to play Coo-ee with some Canyoners!
