Description

Bangalley TS4135D

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Bangalley.

Serial number is: TS4135D.

Last inspected on: April 16, 1988.

Elevation is: 116 meters.

A steep walk in from Whale Beach Parade up the many steps. The official name of this cache is 'Bangalley' as recorded on the plaque.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Found whilst in the area doing a trig hunt

Fairly tough walk up...but coming back down was the prize. And the trig...but it's not in a great condition.

Found whilst on an afternoon walk up to the top.
Perfect weather and spectacular views.

Parked along Whale Beach Rd and made my way to the trig. Quite a few steps up from the road but well worth it when I got to the top with great views along the coast. Found the trig at the side of the track it has seen better days. Name plate still there. TFTT.

sublime views nearby. Geodetic station full of refuse.

I had spent a lovely day at Palm Beach and was on my way home. I found the nearby GC cache, and noticed that this Trig was only 100m further along the path. Weird that it hasn't been found in 4 1/2 years??

Anyway, the old object is still there, with a plate that confirms it is indeed the old TP, but only the post is there now, which has become a storage container for old beer bottles Sad

Great views from the edges of the ocean-side cliff! Not for the acrophobics . . .

Found this one together with rogerw3 and then went on to log the nearby GC traditional.

A bit of a steep walk up, but no problems for two Blue Mountains boys.

Shame the post and vane have broken off -- looks like old age and not vandalism.

Couldn't believe the views on a beautiful autumn afternoon.

'Three Thumbs Up' for the Pacific Ocean panoramas . . .

Trig number 5 on our trigging expedition with pjmpjm. We found the entrance to the reserve on Whale Beach Road and started up the steps, but quite an enjoyable walk up to the trig. Found it right on the side of the path as expected.
It is in 2 pieces as the mast and vanes seem to have rusted off the base, we put it back up for the photos and replace it as found on the ground after.

We were in the area re-discovering unpublished trigs and had to drop by to log this one. What a climb up the hill! Went past it to find "On a Clear Day" GC cache and took the loop track back to find this trig which was sitting there strangely in two parts. 'Re-assembled' it for photos and then put it back the way it was. The plaque 'Bangalley' is still there surprisingly. Nice walk. Spectacular views nearby, some of the best in Sydney.

found while doing a few other caches in the area.
There are 2 near this trig point, one is easy, the other required more bush-bashing than I had time for today.( especially in shorts & thongs).
Great views nearby, though the trig point itself has so many trees & bushes around it that I doubt it is visible from anywhere other then overhead.
(laptop seems to have killed the pic, will upload once I can recover it)

Crystal warrior and I were out and about and found this nice trig which just needed to be 'found' (in geocaching terms). And we did! Here are the photos to prove it.......... A great spot to launch off and find a nearby cache but beware it requires a bit of bush-bashing!
