Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Big days driving today but arrived at Ned's Corner just as the last rays of the days sun were disappearing. Made for quite a good picture of the trig point (I think!) and of course there is the mandatory picture of the survey point to accompany the artistic picture as well Mr. Green Cheers

#GA1425 - 10:55; Day 3 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune. We are now headed from Mildura across the border into the Riverland and our final destination of Barmera after caching around Renmark, Berri and Loxton. Grabbed this trig heading out of Mildura and along the Sturt Highway this morning without any problems. A quick detour and the snap was in the can. TFTT Geocaching Australia Clan Cerberus

Gotta love a drive by trig! This photo has it all, the GPS, Mr Beetle, the van, the trig and the tower. Mr Beetle worked for Telstra for 40 years and said it is unusual to have 2 radio towers so close together. Thanks.

21-May-15
Geohubby spotted this from the road so we just had to come and take a pic. Just on sunset.

23-Jul-14
A quick drive by grab on the way back to the ACT. Nice spot nearing sunset.

The sun was getting lower in the sky as we arrived at this location. Access was easy and the trig point was seen easily from the road. A composite photo had been added to the Gallery showing one of us at the trig point and the survey marker button. TFTC.

Gotta love a drive by trig - particularly with the camper on. Mr Morris and the 15 yo also rolled paddymelons down the hills for ages.

06-Jul-11
Our only GCA cache for the day on our trip between Mildura and Victor Harbor.

As the access track runs from the highway right up to the TP we classed this as a very easy "find", although the prickles in the socks add just a small level of difficulty.

The Wenchette had a great time rolling paddy melons down the track.
Photo to follow once we get home again.

21-Nov-10

147. Whoops one I didn't mark as found in the field notes. I really have no idea now how many cache on the trip. It looks like the placer of this trig didn't like round shapes.
