Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I joined a trip to Temora with Smitten Granny, Sol de Lune and Lucky L10n to get the HOTT caches out that way. We had a great day with pretty good success. There was a smoke haze about all day but it did not affect our caching.

Thanks
Albida

#GA3990 - 09:50; Out for a day of caching with Sol de lune, albida33 and Smittengranny and headed for the 'History of Temora Tour' series of caches further along Burley Griffin Way. A quick detour saw some long shts of this trig snapped from the track at the bottom of the hill. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Out for a day trip with Albida, LuckyL10n and Smittengranny to Temora and stopped for this one along the way...

The trig can be seen from the road, although the photo doesn't do it justice.

Found while out with a great bunch of fellow cachers including LuckyL10n, Albida and Sol de lune. Thanks for the fun today fellas. Clapping Trig could be seen with the naked eye but unfortunately smoke being blown in from the bush fires further east make it difficult to see in the photo.

I saw this trail of GCA caches appear about a month ago and have wanted to attempt it for quite a while. It ended up being a relaxing 3.5 hour drive around the country side. It’s nice to have a couple more GCA caches with a Big Grin on them. I found a few different dinosaurs and other different types of hides. All caches found today were quick finds and were left at its current location for the next finder to move along. Today’s finds also included a few Trig-Points finds. I would like to thank all CO’s of the caches I found today and for allowing them to bring joy to me and the rest of the caching community. TFTC’s and TFTTP’s Big Grin

The long shot seems to show the concrete pedestal at the top of the hill. I plan to return to as permission to walk up there for better shots.
