Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I parked close to the advised spot, and set out along the old track. A roughish walk, but I really enjoyed seeing the way the mosses, shrubs and trees are taking over the path to the trig the bulldozer cleared however many years ago. They don't seem to be having any difficulty with the lumps of limestone.

The trig structure appeared in the scrub just as my gps proximity alarm sounded, and I was pleased to be able to move a few stones to uncover the plaque, the first one I've seen, so another piece of Geocaching education was achieved today.

Also, the views from here are great.

TFTVC GA, and Everlasting for the car park coordinates.

This afternoon we entered the Innes National Park on Yorke Peninsula. As we drove, we came across a track which appeared to he heading towards this trig point. Mrs y'stassie set off and after a pleasant walk, arrived at the beacon. Some photos have been added to the Gallery: the beacon with our GPS on the rocks below; our GPS next to the Survey Marker; and a closer view of the Survey Marker.

South Australia 2013 with Sol de Lune. We headed off on 12/4 and arrived home on 28/4. The trip was to visit the SA series so more time could be spent at the Mega itself next year. We did a huge variety of caching around Murray Bridge, the Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and Whyalla Region. Apart from one wet night and two wet days we were able to spend heaps of time caching.

One of Plenty of trigs we saw on this trip. I hope I get the right picture on each trig.

Thanks.

One of many many trigs found by Albida and myself while on our 2 week trip to, and around South Austrlia. A nice close up of this one.

A great day driving around the National Park, well worth the effort to get here.

Thanks for yet another trig.....we managed just over 30 for the trip.
