Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.
Access is via the sign posted walking tracks off Ironcliffe Road Penguin.

Logs
There is a new track to the peak, which avoids the "straight up" approach.
As a result, I was able to take advantage of the situation and do some caching today
After finding caches around East Devonport this morning before our visit to the hospital today, I came over here and started the trail walk
Weather: 13 degrees Celsius Fine, sunny and blue skies with some cloud
Travel: For the day, I totalled 14.91 kilometres burning 2293 calories which required 19907 steps Needless to say, my legs are not in LOVE with me at the moment but they will learn to forgive me.
TP2246 “Mount Montgomery ST367”
Having already walked from PCT#1 to PCT#7 and back to the track leading to this cache, my legs are tired and slightly sore
Now for the climb - slow and steady; passing three muggle groups along the track
Found the last 100 or so metres very steep and tiring but stubbornness would not let me stop - getting "OLD" has got to stop!!
Once at the top, the effort was well worth it
Another bucket list cache done and dusted
Enjoyed the great views immensely
Sainted at 1450 hours
All good with the trig
TFTC and cheers

Not very nice weather - just a sprinkly when I left the car but light persistant rain at the 400m to go mark on the journey up and continued for the rest of the day.
Locals who have been here before will recognise the tower in the background....
For those who seek TrigPoints and standard geocaches, they can consider themselves lucky and can claim a "two for one" deal provided they meet the requirements of both cache listings.
