Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Five years ago I had a go at walking here as I was leaving home I slipped down the front steps and stubbed my toe It hurt but kept going. I managed to walk one fifth of the way over button grass and through the some thick tea tree. I stopped at a lovely beach and had lunch as I did I thought I dot feeling motivated enough to keep on going so I turned around and went back home. luckily I did as when I took my boots off half of my foot was black, a trip to the doctors and x-ray said I had broken a toe.

Earlier this week I asked my brother if he was interested in another adventure on Lake Pedder, lucky for me he was keen.

This morning I went to an ANZAC Dawn Service before my brother picked me up at 0700. We put the boat in at the boat ramp neat the canal and headed off along the extremely calm waters of the lake stopping a few time to marvel at the reflections.
Once at the base of the mountain and as the water was so calm the boat was gently driven aground and we disembarked to start our walk, it wasn't too long before some of our gear was left on a rock to be retrieved later.
As we climbed up we got into a low cloud that was covering the area and our view of the lake eventually disappeared eventually we got out on top of it and we could see the mountain for the first time. After two hours of climbing we got to the top and the cloud had gone.

After taking a few photos and sitting on a rock having a bit of a rest we headed back down, I don't know how many times we fell over missing a step or sliding down the wet rocks but it was a lot quicker only taking one hour to get back to the boat.
Another *FTF* on ANZAC Day.

Back onto the boat for lunch then the next trig on the list.
