Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

The area was partially fenced off today so we didn't really have any choice of direction to take the photo from. Looks like it has had a paint job recently, which makes a change from the dirty grey. Perhaps they are thinking of putting a mural up on this one.

Thanks for listing this trig point!

And another large canvas wasted. C’mon Brisbane, invest in some art! Keep it simple if you have to and throw some local history themes at these structures! Rant over haha.

Today’s adventure started at a GC Event where I chatted with geo-buddies and took part in some tree fishing. I’m new to this tree fishing thing, I guess I’m a late starter haha. I have the equipment but have never got around to getting a hook sorted. I plan to do this soon and keep the poles in my geo-van. It seems to be standard equipment required in some areas. I met new geo-friends today. It’s great to chat to people with common interests. In fact during the post event caching we barely stopped chatting! Lots of challenge caches signed, most of which I don’t yet qualify for. Some of these will just qualify over time, others will need some focus at some point. After several of these we all parted ways with plans to catch up soon. While in the area I was only a few minutes from this Trigpoint and a really interesting GCA Virtual Cache so I took the opportunity to visit them both.
Thanks for the cache Smile

When we see these water towers on our travels we always have a look to see if there’s a trig. And there was. Very Happy

First time we’ve seen a trig point like this. Photo shows trig point and its number.

Thanks Geocaching Australia.

This water tower has so many objects on top that the Trig Point marker gets lost among everything else. The required photo has been added to the Gallery. Thanks Geocaching Australia for the cache.

The coordinates led me to the water tower and what appears to be the Trig Point marker at its base.

Found both the silver wall with the numeral tag above it which is different to other TRG points I found. Also saw other point around the corner previously found. Follow the local radio station to it's strongest signal and don't part in their parking area.

GPSr took me straight to the object described in previous logs. Found at 1625. The Co Ordinates are spot on for the object in the cement with a metal tag on the wall of the water tower.

Well, I think the trig point is the water tower itself, and my guess for the point that this refers to is this little metal ball in the photo?? (No photo of GPS, as I took the photo with the GPS!).

Shell and I think we've found what could have been a point, once upon a time, because of the markings inside the metal hole (or that could be gibberish. What's more likely, given the 69m elevation, the trig point could be at the top of the water tower. What we did find nearby, but unfortunately didn't photograph, was a weather station.
