Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Not sure if I got what was really required, but I know I was standing on the spot. needs a metal detector and some tools to clear the dirt.

Found on a weekend trip to Albury.

06-Oct-19
Out and about on a day of caching around Albury. Made our way out to the east and found this trig, found the trig near the shop and the marker near the coordinates, also found a survey marker not far from GZ. Photos of all the above attached. TFTC

16-Nov-18
Grabbed while on the way to the Parkville Mega in Melbourne...

Like others, found the plate and disks at or very close to the posted co-ords. Photo's attached. As for the actual trig, it has ben cut down and removed to the shop about 700 odd metres. That trig is not the actual trig point though.

Another trig point crossed off the list.....great looking area to visit, sit back and rest for a while

As we approached Wodonga today we called into Kookaburra Point to look for this trig point. At the published coordinates we found the remains of a survey pin in concrete highlighted by a small painted blue circle (as reported by others). As we walked back to the car we located two survey markers, one 12m from the published coordinates and the other 32m from the published coordinates. Three photos have been added to the Gallery: the blue circle painted on the concrete at the published coordinates; the survey marker 12m from the published coordinates; and the survey marker 32m from the published coordinates. Thanks for the cache.

Found on a lovely sunny day. Only the concrete footing remains, with its blue ring, but no brass plate to be found.

It's a great day to be by the lake.

While staying nearby at Lake Hume we headed out and located the remains of this trig. We photographed the brass plate on the ground at GZ and found the trig frame and vanes 750 m away in the paddock opposite the shop. TFTT

This was a bit challenging. Like the previous finder we only found a concrete block and another with sawn off legs we kicked the soft soil looking for the other legs and uncovered the survey marker lying buried and loose. It's had a battering (like it's been hit with a slasher blade or something) We replaced it on the obvious spot for it but it's now just lying loose.
Then we spotted the trig on our way out - opposite the shop with a bent leg and a tree growing through it. A sad ending we think.
Thanks Geocaching Australia

#GA1767 - 15:25; I was in Wodonga to ride the High Country Rail Trail with CBRCHIC, StrangeTrousers and Geosnag1 and after finishing the ride earlier this afternoon, I stopped off to give this trig a try on the way home. I found what looked like three footings for a trig and another roughly in the centre which looked like it might have ben the mark. I then found a survey mark about 15 metres north of GZ and to round things out, located the trig itself back near the entry, just across the road from the General Store. One of the more interesting trig hunts I think I've had! TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Last for the day as we leave Kookaburra Point. The way this one is resting against the tree it looks like it has been uprooted and dumped here.
A great little area although the water level seems low. Thanks.

31-Aug-14
A little confusing to start with. Traditional Trig point marker at entrance to location. Then a pair of concrete base ponts at the Lon/Lat location and then a brass plaque at a third location about 10 mtrs from the concrete base mounts.

This took us by surprise, but Sol de Lune knew the trig was here, even if it is in the wrong place it seems. Interesting.

I was looking for a place to have lunch & while driving to trig at this park we pulled over to have a top location lunch spot. While having lunch I read the logs & realized we drove past the original trig. It is looking like it needs a little TLC this 1, thanks.

10-Aug-11
Found survey mark around 12.30pm after a short search on the hill. Shame that this mark does not have some small recognition sign about it. Moveable trig found at entrance to Kookaburra Point looking the worse for wear. The area is nice and the water in the Weir still up for a nice stroll around the bank.

20-Nov-10
Found original trig location and also the 'movable' beacon.

27-Aug-10
Attended this area with Everlasting. We beleive that the trig has been moved, however we also found the survey peg. Nice area

27-Aug-10
Accompanied with Coruze, we found the survey mark - no Trig... Anyway I am so happy to see survey mark instead of trig. Thanks.

I was all set to give this one away, but when I was getting some food at the servo, I saw the disc, so it may not be in the right spot, but it is here. Albida.

27-Mar-10
Spoke to a fellow near the back of the servo which is located across the road from the trig in question. The trig is indeed the Kookaburra Point Trig & was moved to its current location many years ago as a talking point. Not many people are/were aware that such things existed. Decided to claim this one given the unusual circumstances & background.

09-Jan-10
Not sure if this trig point exists. Got to where it should have been but there was nothing there, couldn't find and sort of ground marker in the grass either.
Only thing close to being a trig point in this area is at the intersection to drive into Kookaburra Point across the road from the service station. Maybe the "tripod" located there used to be the one from the posted co ords, its an odd place for it but it has been there for many years.

Posted a pic of it anyway.
