Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Pulled in to the town of Boort for some trigs and a quick rest stop.

After caching at the amazing St Arnaud Mega we were in no hurry to get home so we meandered this way and look what we found!
Thanks for this trig point. And why haven’t these silos been painted?
Now on to the Spanner Man.

#GA3915 - 12:50; After a couple of days in St Arnaud for the Mega, we set off towards home this morning to take a roundabout route to Echuca or perhaps further afield. Stopped off near Boort for this trig, then down the road a little further for a CORS. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Spotted on the way home from the St Arnaud mega with LuckyL10n. Gotta love driving around the country areas...in this case with hay bales as far as the eye could see.

We decided to go caching after having the most enjoyable experience - visiting the Spanner Man and seeing all his incredible sculptures made out of spanner man. An absolute must for anyone visiting the area. If you have to wait a few days for a tour, I would thoroughly recommend it. We found the trig easily enough and attach our photo. TFTT

A drive-by trig. TFTC.

After staying overnight in Swan Hill, we headed towards the south east to look for caches around Quambatook, Boort, Mount Terrick Terrick, Pyramid Hill and Kerang before returning back to Swan Hill. We had a very enjoyable day visiting places we had not seen before. Our third stop was at the Yando SArea Trig Point at Boort. Whereas all had been quiet at the earlier silos we had visited, there was quite a deal of activity at this site. The Yando Area Trig Point was located very quickly. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: Mrs y'stassie with the trig point on top of a silo in the background; and a closer view of the trig point. Thanks Geocaching Australia for the cache.

A quick find on a round about trip from Bendigo to Swan Hill trying to get as many bonus dragon points as possible. TFTT

While staying at the very nice Quambatook Caravan Park we decided to have a day caching around Quamby and Boort.

We were joined last night by a great group of bikers from the Military Brotherhood who invited us to join them for a BBQ catered by the local Lions Club and then drinks and entertainment at the Quamby Pub.
We all had a great night Big Grin

Our third TP for the day.

Thanks for the cache Geocaching Australia Clapping

Travelling around the countryside I noticed a familiar sight atop this structure. A quick check on the phone and Wow it is a Trig.
First one I have ever noticed atop a building.

The kids enjoyed just watching the crop being transferred from the trucks to the silos.

Love this trig sitting up there in the middle of the flood plains.

27-Dec-09
This Trig Point is situated ontop of the silos, so managed to get a shot with the camera, the best we could do from this point.
