Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Spotted this Historical trig on the way from Bourke to Macquarie Marshes. It wasnt planned, but you cant miss it! Great reading on the plaques about the history.
Sad that the other one further down the road isn't as accessible, especially while towing the campertrailer. Looking at two earlier posts, it looks like there might not be much left of that one. TFTT

We've started travelling south again after a fabulous time around the Barcaldine area during the inaugural QOGM. Next year look out Blackall when we do it all over again.
I was out without a chauffeur today and oh how much longer it takes. This was one of 17 finds today - a mixture of GC and GCA caches. Loved readng about this historical marker.

It has taken us some time to work through all the photos we took whilst on our major excursion to get to Brisbane (for a family wedding) via Griffith, Cobar, Bourke and Stanthorpe. It was a great trip, one which we will remember for a long time because of the very different landscape types that we went through, the unique characters of each of the towns visited, the wildlife (we hadn't seen very large flocks of emu roaming before)and the different community activities and tourist features.

As e were travelling from Nyngan to Bourke we came across the historic Trafalgar Homestead Area beacon on the side of the highway. We enjoyed reading the detailed information about development of The Bourke Base Line in response to the increasing number of farmers in the area and the need to survey land, taking about forty years to complete (although the project was suspended for a while due to World War I).

The other plaque attached to the trig point was to commemorate the construction of the Bourke North Base in 1915, the most northern part of Australia’s first National Mapping Scheme.

The photo attached to this log shows Mrs y’stassie standing next to the Trafalgar Homestead Area beacon.

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1474. Found during Day 19 of my epic 21 day visit to Alice Springs for the Red Centre Experience Event and further travels after that.

Flew into Alice Springs and met up with my fellow intrepid team members Sol de Lune, Albida33 and LuckyL10n for the start of an amazing trip throughout the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and eventually back to Canberra. The Red Centre Experience is the main attraction of course, but also on our agenda are a lot of GC Caches, lots of trigs, as well as plenty of GCA Trads, History and Virtual Caches (and maybe the odd beer or two ??!! Smile. Go Clan Cerberus !

Another trig for the trip. We were now heading south and east again, and we managed to get to this trig. Photo taken. Then it was back in the car and off to the next one !

Another trig added to the dragonZone list. I really enjoy finding trigs and also the new CORS that are popping up everywhere !

TFTC !!

#GA1608 - 15:30; Day 29 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune, albida33 and fitzy_1965. Today we are headed from Charlieville to Nyngan via Bourke and a few small towns in between. The caching was light north of the border today, but was now becoming a bit more productive to the south. This was the last of five trig finds for the day, but by far the easiest given the signpost on the highway! TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Few trigs are well indicated with a sign, as this one is. It also has off-road parking and a garbage bin. Just needs a covered picnic table and toilets and it's complete Very Happy
