Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

Official Code: TS5874
Official Name: Dangarsleigh

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

There is also a rock cairn (and as at 2/4/15) and a 150mm x 150mm woodedn post with intact vanes lying across the cairn, next to the concrete pedestal.

Access: The owner is Lyndsay Waters,of "Lansdowne" property, on Old Gostwyck Rd.

Stopped by this Trig point on the way back to our campsite at Dangars Gorge.
The closer you get, the harder it is to see the trig point. There is a small house and shed behind a gate at the base of the hill with the trig on it, however no one was home so we couldn't get permission to take the short walk up the hill.

First for the morning. Long shot needed. On private property, so the old trig is not able to be found unless you can get permission to access.

Tamworth and Amrmidale Trip March 2020. Day 5. I headed north with Fitzy_1965 along the New England Highway towards Tamworth. Today we moved north to Armidale, but no in a straight line. There was a chance to get a few GCA caches along the way.

Thanks
Albida

After visiting mum and dad down the road a bit, then finding a little cache trail and a spot of cache maintenance - this was next on the list. So much to do on this back road between Uralla and Armidale. I could see the trig from quite some distance away so drove to the closest point, which was a locked gate that led up to a rocky hill with the cache on top. I walked up the rocks, which were a little bit slippery, as over an inch of rain had just fallen - long overdue and very welcome. Upon investigating our usual suspect - I saw the remains of the old trig - the wooden pole and a rusty set of vanes, half buried with blackberry vine, and cheeky lizards popping their head out watching my every move. I do remember hearing that there was a seperate listing for the old trig, so I'll log it too. Took a easier route back to the car, then needed to keep moving - had a drive to Lismore in front of me. Loved this trig!

Not keen to seek permission from the property owner due to drought, biosecurity and bushfire issues at present so took our pic from outside the fence. Consequently we aren't able to log the other trig here (Old Dangarsleigh) as it can't be seen from the road. Dangarsleigh GS can easily be seen by driving halfway up Knobs Road.. good name for a road going up a hill! Very Happy

Huge thanks to Pa who agreed to chauffeur me around a 100 kms circuit starting in and ending in Uralla today.
Phoned the property owner before beginning this traipse up the hill. Getting my exercise finding trigs.

After driving around after leaving the "Kellys Plains on the way to Stanthorpe Mega Event" Event trying to find a property owner I could ask for permission from to access this trig that is visible from the East and only finding a nearby vacant property For Sale I settled for walking up the rocky slope to check it out.
Surprise, surprise, the trig is only intact, with name plate of Dangarsleigh, but there is a stone cairn next to it, with a lovely wooden post and metal vanes almost undamaged. Ummm, me thinks I can find a use for those!
I checked a property owner a little further away from the trig, and it turns out he had been a Pest Controller for the local council, and knew the property owner. So on checking with Lyndsay Waters the actual property owner - who is happy for people to contact him and get permission to head up the hill. There may be distant plans to do some building work on that property, but not much for a while.
Will also add a Trig Point for the old cairn.

While camping at the "Kellys Plains on the way to Stanthorpe Mega" Event I was chatting with host who knew of the trig, but didn't know the owner of the property. On checking with another local I contacted Lyndsay Waters who is happy for people to contact him for access to the trig. He lives on Old Gostwyck Rd, property called - Lansdowne.
I will also change the name from Bald Knobs Hill to the gazetted name of Dangarsleigh.

I could have sworn I archived this one but driving past today I noticed it on the GPS screen.

This one is on private property and you would be hard pressed to get within 250m to get a photo of the trig.
