Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Addtional Information
Source: Geoscience Australia
Type: Horizontal Control Point
Elevation: 598
PID: 2946309
Other Information: Geoscience Australia

Additional Information by Crew 153.

The site is located inside a Telstra compound. There is a tall telecommunications tower as the location. I assume that this is the position of the Trig Point.

Additional edit confirming the above:

According to government trig sketch 703351 "Station Mark: Drill hole in cross member of tower", therefore the tower is it!

Being unable to work for a second week in a row I decided it was time I made that road trip to Mt Tamborine at long last. I've only been planning it since moving to the Northern Rivers over 3 years ago. Monday it was raining. Tuesday I was hoping the cloud may have shifted off over the ocean but it was still clinging to the coast. I decided I was going Wednesday no matter what. I woke this morning and checked on the trusty BOM satellite image and gauged that the rain should have stopped up here by the time I arrive. I was correct! But cloud...

After passing a few non-lookouts I now plan to stop at on my way out, I followed my stomach to a place I'd read was supposed to be a good spot. Fortitude Brewery isn't too bad actually. I was hoping to find something casual and this it is. The cocktails menu was plastered everywhere and i like trying something new every now and again, however... Don't try the Hubba Bubba cocktail and definitely don't follow the barperson's recommendation to use lemonade rather than soda water!!! Sick yuk
At least I don't have to worry about being over the limit now.

I wandered over behind the Tavern to take a closer look at the tower and snapped a pic as required.

Now... how long is this cloud going to cling on I wonder?

So I’m rockin’ to Kate Bush while driving up a mountain today.. that’s a secret by the way, there’s a good chance it’ll be denied if I’m questioned about it…

After a quick GC puzzle cache find I was here at GZ looking at the nice bistro beside the Trig.. yes I’ll be with you in just a moment haha. Image taken then it was time for lunch before heading to work. Thanks for the cache and thanks to MattyRx for the extra information, it’s appreciated Smile
Cheers

I was coming round the mountain today and had previously noticed that this tower was indeed a trig. Stopped and took the required photos. Nice easy one to find!

According to the government Survey Mark Report, the trig point is actually a hole drilled in a crossmember of the microwave tower. So the tower is the trig marker. Very east trig to photograph, even if you cant touch it.

26-Jul-19
Trig point is surrounded by 2 meter chain wire fence with locked gates. Area is easy to find with with a microwave tower approximately 20 meters high. Mad

#GA3002 - 11:30; Today it was time for the geotribe and I to head for the hills and so it was we made our way up and along the winding road and through multiple lots of roadwork to Tamborine Mountain. Dropped the geotribe in the midst of fudge heaven for a look around while I headed a little further down the road to grab a snap or two of this trig. Thanks Geocaching Australia.

Late this morning we drove to Mount Tamborine and while there, we located the Eagle Heights trig point which is actually the communications tower. The required photo, with Mrs y'stassie lurking in the shadows, has been added to the Gallery. Thanks Geocaching Australia for the cache.

We are up on the mountain today collecting a variety of puzzles, multis and traditionals and making the most of the beautiful winter weather that the south east has been experiencing recently.

We were on our way to the waypoint of a multi when we passed this one and I had to stop and take a photo.

Like others, I walked up here while the family were shopping and snapped a couple of pictures to show my visit. I was surprised that the place has a tower built on it, but I guess that you can spot it from a fair ways away!

Cheers Cool

While up in Tamborine Mountains today, I had the chance for a few quick caches. Girls were choosing some nice Fudge, while I checked out this Trig and took the pic. Shame the original Trig base has gone, unable to get into the fence to get a closer look. Beautiful mountains up here Very Happy

I was on the mountain and decided to check this out.

As others have said the GZ is surrounded by a big old fence and the phone tower is now in the place of the original Trig Point.

I have taken a photo and have tried to get all the elements in the photo. (ie. me, the gps and the tower)

25-Dec-10
Photo to follow shortly. The tower disappeared into the mist and rain today. Pretty neat.

12-Sep-10
The coordinates led me to a fence surrounding a Telstra Communications Tower. The GPS was indicating 30 metres to GZ. It looks like the tower is actually the trig point now.

I took the photo through the fence using my Garmin Oregon 450 so coundn't get the GPS in the photo.

A great spot to visit while the missus was shopping on Gallery Walk.

I have amended the Title and added to the description of the listing.

15-Jan-10
Saw the fence and just drove off.

05-Dec-09
Found the location, couldn't get too close because of the fence.
