Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

#GA5391 - 08:50; Day three of a mission through the Central West of New South Wales with Sol de lune to grab some of the dragonZones to our west was now on the homeward leg. After spending the night in Carinda, we headed south for home through Quambone, Coonamble, Gulargambone, Gilgandra, Dubbo, Tomingly, Parkes, Forbes and Grenfell. Today we collected finds in Walgett, Coonamble, Dubbo, Narromine, Parkes, Forbes and Weddin dragonZones and counties on our way home with some 2200 kms on the clock for the mission. Out on a road trip with LuckyL10n to grab a few dragonZones in outback NSW that we still had to visit including Bland, Carrathool, Lachlan, Cobar, Brewarrina, Walgett, Coonamble as well as grabbing a few caches in previously visited zones. A fun 3 days with over 2200 klms notched up along the way. A visit to the little town of Carinda which is famous for a visit by David Bowie to record a film clip for one of his single releases, was a bit of a highlight. A neat pub with great food and a good sort of atmosphere. Well worth the drive off the main road to check it out. At $55 a night the accommodation, while basic, was not too bad.

This was one of the many trigs we found while out and about. No issues here and the required photo was soon snapped.

Thanks for another trig....

Day 18 of our outback adventure which included QOGM 2019. Back into NSW today and really travelled further than I anticipated - St George to Dubbo. Will spend a couple of nights here and decide where to from here.
A little divergence into Lightning Ridge and ran into someone Greg went to school with while we looked at opals.
Thank goodness for GCA caches as the journey would have been quite boring

We stopped here on our way to the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster and enjoyed some lunch at a very nice cafe in town.
Love the old hotels here.
We nicked around to find this trig/water tower before continuing our journey north.

Last found in 2014 by another Tasmanian caching group. Stopped on the way to this one to check out the local rodeo. Could hear all the activity from there clearly at GZ.
The trig marker is a bit hard to see in the photo but is at the top of the stairs.
Ended up with shoes full of those savage little spiky things after getting the photo for this one. Thanks.

Found on our way to Dubbo. Another drive by trig - too easy.

Found this one whilst on the way up to Lightning Ridge. Went up there several weeks ago and couldn't find The Black Queen so as a lover ofcamping and hunting caches I went back to try again. So may as well look for Trigs. Ta Acko

I used to come up here in the early 000's to see some customers and had a customer just around the corner. Today was for something a bit more fun!
