Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

After a morning chasing ALs and trigs in Kingscliff/Fingal Heads we headed up to Tweed Heads for more trigs.... the views here are actually better from the carpark!

Wow, twice in one week the cloud-catcher was displaying her perfect imperfections. I saw her unclouded last Sunday from the East Peak summit of Mount Barney and now here today! Yes there’s a nice view from the other side but I prefer mountains so this is view pic I’m posting. Sorry-not-sorry Very Happy

I’ve seen this Trig before. About nine years ago I found the nearby GC cache and our encounter was a very pleasant surprise. For many decades I’ve loved coming across Trigs and things related to them. There is also a cool survey marker and an orientation plate here. I’m in datum nerd paradise haha. Well, no experience lasts forever so it’s off to the next one.. Fingal..

I travelled to Tweed Heads and caught up with Moogie Chew for Mother’s Day. We decided to visit the Toongarabah Trig which was close by. The lookout is certainly high up and walk way steep. The grassy area would be a nice place for a picnic. There would have been garden beds at some time but no longer maintained. There is a plaque on a small building indicating that the lookout has been around for at least 65 years. There is a metal plate with directions to points of interest. Good place to stop by and admire the view. Thanks for the Trig.

Met up with Ravenclaw2480 for Mother's Day, and had to find a cache while we were here. We chased a couple of bush turkeys up the hill Smile

My fear of heights wanted me to give this one a miss, but I decided to trust those who designed and built the bridge and just went on. Got back to the car and wondered if there was a cache there. There was. Oh well. Trigs are my priority.

#GA2994 - 11:55; After a relaxing couple days on the Gold Coast, the crew headed back over the border for breakfast in Kingscliffe. After a very nice brekky, it was back north again via a few caches which involved nice views etc. Parked the geomobile in the carpark and up the walkway and through the park to the trig. Great views over Tweed Heads and Coolangatta from here too! TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Such a good view over the surrounding area. when we visited there was storms over the ocean and a sunset in the opposite direction. The trig has been converted to hold a prism i think

Last find this morning and wonderful clear views all around.

"Lovely view" says the 4 year old. True. 2nd trig point of the day

15-Jan-16
The park has been closed because of problems with the access ramp and only recently reopened. I've been here before multiple times but failed to log this trig point. Anyway, this morning with the official reopening and we were invited to breakfast with some of the council bigwigs and other members of the community. Was surprised to see the disks missing, thought they had been there last time I was in the park.

After finding a couple of trigs at Point Danger I was looking for another that didn't require an hours walk. This filled 'the bill', tho I did wonder if I had found the right access on Razorback St, as there was a huge tree fallen over and covering the path to the top.
Once past that it was an easy walk to a concrete pedestal. Took some photos, but can't get the SD card to connect with the tablet.

Find Number 645, found at 06:51

I came to the Gold Coast to take part in the National Finals of a bridge competition. Having woken up far too early this morning I walked over to "Happy Birthday Thom" and still had time to tackle the traditional cache nearby and then this one. I had a look at the hill, thought about my medical situation and called for a cab to get me to the top. Even from the car park it was a stiff climb to the top, but the views were well worth it. On a clear early morning the views seemed to go on forever.

Fantastic views from this trig in all directions. Lovely sunny day so I could see for miles. Found at 2:27 pm.

Found on our way to grab C view. The disks are now missing, but those that know a Trig will recognise it anyway.

18-Aug-13
Stopped here while on the way to C View.
Excellent views up here too.

08-Dec-12
Sensational views of the area. Really like the idea of the water pipe being a handrail...though we weren't tempted to sit in the seat part way up the stairs!

I hope this Trig is grateful for all the hardwork someone is doing in looking after the surrounds. What a beaut spot to take in the scenery, read a book, spread a picnic rug or simply chill out. Cool

Decided to have a look up here, as I was passing through on my way to Surfers. What a great view. I’ll bet that there aren’t as many trig points that have been looked after like this one, and that have such beautiful gardens around them! I had a look for the nearby GC cache, but decided to leave it to another time, as the wind was blowing a gale up here, and we were a bit late for an appointment anyway.

18-Sep-10
A great hidden gem and the most intact trig point we have come across so far.

See if you can spot the typo on the nearby bronze map.

Saw this one back in May 2010 but forgot to log it. Great views over the coast.

This was our first time at caching and failed to locate the cach...was looking for a treasure box. After returning home we realised we were to look for the trig point. Went back and had success! Lovely spot, hadn't been there in years.

Found while geocaching in the area. Great views over south Tweed towards the coast and fantastic park up on the hill.

The name of this cache is quite misleading. Kirra is in Queensland and this cache is quite some Km from Kirra and it is in NSW. The local name of the geographic feature is Razorback. I grew up here and lived about half way between this trig and Kirra Beach!

19-Sep-09
Found this cache 13/4/09. Bit hard to get me in the photo when I cache on my own. Logged with Waymark it.
