Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Off on a mid week break with Just a cacher to enjoy the sunshine and follow the river for a while when we noticed that this cache was nearby.

After finding a spot to pull over with a view of the trig it was a quick grab and then on our way again.

Thanks for the trig.

This was a very interesting area. Not only were there interesting granite rock outcrops but there was also a blow hole. We were looking forward to seeing this blowhole as we had visited a similar on near Cocklebiddy as we crossed the Nullarbor.

It was getting very hot this afternoon -the temperature had risen to thirty four degrees and as a result things were very quiet in this reserve today.

We located the track to the trig marker and were able to drive to within 15m of the trig beacon. The brass mushroom was close to the concrete pillar.

After taking the required photos we went to find the nearby GC cache. Two of the photos have been added to the Gallery.

When we turned to leave the area we noticed the sky to our south west was inky grey and we thought we might have heard some rummbles of thunder in the distance.

Quarry Hill area is in the Berrigan area so we were pleased to have an extra cache in this region.

Found by baby&Mrs gopher on a weekend away in Tocumwal. Came upon the TP while in the local area. What a great place for a walk and to take in the sights.

23-Feb-13
Pleased to convert this to a find after today after missing a couple of years back. Have 4wd now & grass not as long, also a few GC trads nearby encouraged us back.

Attempted to drive in reserve to GZ but grass was half way up the windows. Did not want to cause a fire with hot exhaust. Think we could see from road but fence too high, we're not very agile.

31-Dec-12
A raid on most of the caches in and around Toc gave us a chance to find this TP after having a look at the nearby Blowhole.

24-Nov-12
After finding a nearby EarthCache and a traditional we also claimed this trig point.
Nice to see one a little different to the rest.
