Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Chwiliwr and the better half drove me an mum around the suburbs to take images of things. I played around the concrete thing and laughed when granddad got a round mark around the knee on his good pants when he got under the rails.

Thanks for the cache and another find.

That's funny - a 20 pound penalty for interfering with it. First trig point for me.

29-May-10
A nice little park in surburbia. This one certainly is different from all the other trig points I have seen being so high off the ground. I was speaking to a local who seemed to think it was the tallest point in Perth, but I might have to research that. Anyway I grabbed my snaps and moved on.

Thanks for the series and this cache.

A trig and a playground. It must keep the kiddies happy. Alboda

02-Apr-10
Certain this trig point was fairly obvious. Wonder why it is so tall? Lived in the area for 30+ years and never new it existed.

07-Jan-10
Our first ever GCA find, and first trig point too! Problem with some of the GCA finds is they require a photo of th GPS, and when you use your iPhone for both purposes, it makes it hard to photograph your own camera. Thanks to Shael6636 for taking this pic of the phone with cache page on the trig point.

06-Jan-10
Ahhh my very 1st GCA cache abd also my 1st Trig point. A easy find at night.

21-Nov-09
Our first WA trig point. We are going to enjoy doing these.

11-Oct-09
Easy to find benchmark on top of a concrete post.

21-Sep-09
Wow, my first trig point find. Came here about 5pm, but could only log the find now.

It was very windy & raining, but the trig was easy to find. In a park, on top of the hill, and inside railing to help protect it for the future.

21-Sep-09
At 8.15pm. During the night caching, it has excellent view of the city depending on where you stand. Took the pics of a Trig point of the concrete pillar as per instruction. Thanks.
