Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Out with a mate for a run today and I talked him into running up here. Not knowing what it was like we parked at Cliff Head and jogged over. Glad it was a short run as there were some steep bits to that hill!!

But it was worth it as the view was amazing. And the down hill run is always easier

Arrived here by boat after finding GC Bird Poo Island with Ross, hhheddy, iluvtrekking, cravo10 & barnzy.
Made the effort to climb to the top and inspect the survey mark disc.
Watch out for spiders and snakes if choose to go off-track, shortcut through bush.

GCA 1656. Found during a work visit to the West.

I had already driven past this one a few times this week when I decided to stop and grab the photo. Dodging the showers I grabbed lunch and the Trig.

After a dive off the west side of the island this morning we drove the boat over to Buchanan Bay so I could recover a bit from seasickness lol. While here we wandered up the beach to the Cliff Head memorial cache, and then continued back along the bitumen road towards Tammars Hollow, and then down to this one.

Base security were not very happy with us being there nor with the geocaching, but they confirmed that we were on public access land and were not doing anything wrong.

A quick and easy find here, nice camo. Thanks for the cache colliecarpet!

Dancing Thanks to some very generous friends donating 3 hours of their time today we got to visit some parts of the Island today. Mrs Felix hasn't been here before at all and it's been a very long time since Mr Felix was here Razz

Parked only approx 300metres away but had to walk maybe 500 or 600metres along a reasonable track all the way to GZ.

Well worth the visit and hike up hill. Dancing

Clapping This was the last cache on Garden Island for me to grab, I have been meaning to get this photo for a while, but I could not find the time. Today, I had a function on the island, and a couple of hours to occupy. I decided that a walk to the GZ would be a welcome change from a week behind the desk. I parked 2.63 Km from the GZ and started the stroll. Cool When I got to within 170 metres from the marker, unfortunately, the hill to the marker was very steep, to be precise, a climb of 62 metres. I got to the top, found that the old marker was strun over the hill, and the "new" marker is showing signs of where. I can understand why no-one has gained the secluded TP before, however, the veiw from this hill on the island are quite breath taking. DancingBrick Wall
