Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Chwiliwr took us up to this one and we had a pleasant walk along to the cache although he had to carry me for a bit of it.

Thanks for the cache.

Out with tbh after visiting her sister nearby at Wellington Mill. The restriction sign for vehicles is quite clear and looks to have been there for a while. Had a pleasant walk to the trig and the photo was taken of both the trig point and the downed structure.

Now to go and try to find the hidden gnome moveables in among all those other gnomes.

We drove to about 100m of the Trig. It was pouring with rain an the track were quite muddy. We saw no signs regarding restricted access nor did we see any local. Very happy to add our name to the short list of finders.

5 years 5 months since last find? Wow!! My car GPS directed me south via Joshua Creek, waste of time, surrounded by private property. So headed back north, gaining entry from Racliffe Road; although apparently access is also available from Queenwood Road. Drove my car as far as I dared, walked along the fire break, climbed up into thick bush and bashed my way through to GZ.
Upon exit a local pulled up beside me for a chat, concerned about strangers as there had been recent spate of home robberies. He said this land belongs to Dept of Parks & Wildlife, with restricted access due to dieback disease, thus should not have be in there without permission (albeit no gates/signs to that effect). Also mentioned some locals hunt wild pigs, which explains some animal noises I heard!

2TF! Our second TrigPoint (first one no longer exists). Nice drive for most of the way, last bit a bit steep but easy to drive up and down. Lots of fun!

An interesting find (and a FTF!).
The Trig point tower is on its side.
I wonder if the people that tipped it over paid the twenty pound fine stated on the disc if interfered with Smile
Finding this was great fun, the first of many I reckon.
