Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Found my way up, but there must be a better way than squeezing through a fence. I saw a track out, but the quarry had trucks in there. The old pin is there too, so I will get to that in the days to come.

With a possible FTF up for grabs over in Grenfell and a day off from work, I decided on going for the drive over while collecting a few other caches along the way. Big Grin I started the day with collecting a Trig-Point behind the Grenfell quarry. Next one on the list was the possible FTF and then into the Weddin Mountains to find another TP and avenge a DNF. After my fantastic hike, I headed out and found the lone caches, I hadn’t found yet, between Grenfell and Young. TB visit on all found caches. I would like to thank all CO’s for creating the caches I found and for letting me enjoy the hunt to find them! Big Grin TFTC’s

Puffed to the top on a very hot day. Sorry, lack technology for photos at moment but may change soon. Lovely little trig with a Central Mapping Authority silver plate, inscribed Geodetic Station, Grenfell

#GA955 - 14:35; I was in Grenfell with the geohoney and her muggle friend during the Henry Lawson Festival. That wasn't the reason we were here, just decided to come for a drive on a beautiful day as the geohoney wanted to check out a retail emporium she'd heard of recently. After lunch, I took the chance to do a spot of caching while they did the retail therapy. I love shopping Wink I headed out of town, managing to select the correct roads and soon found myself parked near an entry track about 400m from GZ. I headed up the hill and soon spotted the trig. Found on a huge day trip with Sol de Lune. After parking nearby, we took the 400m walk up to GZ, where we were able to get a good picture of the trig with our GPSrs, then we were off again. Nice area. TFTC GCA! Clan Cerberus

Parked at the gate...walked up through the quarry and soon arrived at the trig. Photo's grabbed and then time to head back down.

On a two day trip out to Genfell I want for a walk up around the back of the quarry to get to this one. A nice little hill with as many as three markers for the trig. Lots of fun. Thanks

Somehow missed this last time when I went on to Eualdrie trig in the Weddin Mountains. Stopped at the quarry gate and walked through the quarry up the hill just as a few drops of rain were falling. A good 400m walk to the trig. Rain started to come down as I grabbed the photos - plaque says the name is 'Grenfell' so have changed the name in the listing. Also looks like the base of another trig about 2m away. Rain started bucketing down and I sat with my back to the trig for protection until it eased slightly then I headed back to the car.

Stopped at the quarry today and had a easy 400 meter walk up to the trig. Wonderful the things you find if you only look.

The last GCA find on our trip to Parkes and return. Found a convenient quarry to park in (well clear of the bulldozer in case it was possessive) and then hoofed it up the side of the quarry and onto the track that means this could have been a drive-by if we'd come from the right spot. Still a pleasant walk and some great views.
