Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Found this cache while up in Lancelin. Made a quick detour and then the short walk and found the trig. The signs have all been affected by a bushfire. TFTC Geocaching Australia. Awesome views from here as well.

From the car park there is a path that will take you to within 26m of trig.
Nice 360° view from up top!

Driving north we stopped for this one and a nearby traditional. I sis the sensible thing and walked in through the scratchy shrubs in shorts and thongs. Luckily I didn't see any snakes! A quick photo and I completed the path around which was interesting.

Cheers Cool

Picked up the nearby GC cache then took a walk on the trail around the hill. Read the plaques along the way describing the local wildflowers and compared them to the realthing. Best time of year up this way when the wildflowers are out in bloom. located the trig and took some photos.

Passed by here on the way to Cervantes and decided to stop off on the way home to grab this trig point Smile

Managed to grab this one and the nearby traditional just before the rain started yet again. Not sure which of these two photos belong to this trig. Will delete the wrong one once I work it out. Thanks.

Big Grin With the holidays half completed, geoson and I decided on a road trip, he is not a big caching fan, but we had an agreement that as we travelled to Shark Bay and back, a few detours along the way were allowed. Cool

We stopped for the view, and wandered the long way from a nearby cache to grab this TP. The TP is showing a lot of wear and tear. Brick WallMr. Green

On our way to the Pinnacles we dropped in at the Nilgen Lookout. Very nice views. Very Happy Took the path most of the way then up a very scratchy overgrown vehicle track. Not a good idea in shorts and sandals.
Found the Trig Point quite easily after getting off the vehicle track.
The Lookout is very new and the signs are still being developed. The stands are there awaiting the signage. Well worth a visit for the views. Cool

Fantastic spot with great views, well worth stopping but when we called in to do this cache we were unaware that it was a Trig point -- we do not have a photo to back us up.

24-Dec-10
Decided to head out for a days drive to cervantes and call in on a few caches along the way.
Trudged through some scrub forgetting this area had parrot bush. (ouch ouch) Wearing shorts is not a good thing. However, we did find it and dropped a pic on here as well.
