Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I walked up and down the fence trying to see the trig. In parts the grass was very long and thick. Finally I just took some photos of the area. Later studying them and comparing the images to photographs others took, I think I have photographed the trig. Fortunately it wasn't among the long grass. TFTC.

#GA5626 - 08:00; Day fifteen of the Townsville Mega adventure with Sol de lune. After a night in Koumala, we headed south, destination Bundaberg, collecting caches in the various dragonZones as we travelled along the Bruce Highway, including this one. A short detour and we had the trig in sight and the snaps taken. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Day 15 of the trek Townsville with LuckyL10n for the mega. Now heading home and today we grabbed a few trigs and a couple of GCA trads.

This trig was first cab of the rank and with the concrete base and plug just over the fence on private property, the photo is from a metres away. No issue seeing it and once the photo was snapped we were off to a CORs well off the beaten track.

Thanks for another trig... Very HappyVery Happy

We are travelling south after visiting the grandkids in Cairns and since the Battleships Game is on, who could drive past this trig, so close to the highway. Obviously the grass has grown since previous photos were taken, but there it is. TFTT Geocaching Australia

There were cattle in the paddock but they were no where near the trig so we went through the gate to get a closer photo. Think they should let them out to eat some of the very long grass on the side of the road here. Thanks.

Found at 1155 whilst driving from Mackay to Yeppoon. Saw this one and thought has been found but not for awhile. Drove up the road a short distance and came to a spot along side the fence could just see the marker for the grass. Just as I was about to stand on the fence a bright red 4WD Toyota pulled up and the young male driver asked if we were ok. He though we had broken down. Explained that I was a collector of Trig point information and Geodedtic type information. He said the land was his Dads and that it was ok to jump the fence. So I did.

There is a concrete trig marker but you cant get near it without trespassing (stand on the fence you can see it!) The trig pole is only 5m on the wrong side so you get a good photo!

21-Jun-10
Drove along the road of the same name to discover this one in a paddock. Just a steel pole with a bit of orange paint. Will add photo.
