Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I saw this trail of GCA caches appear about a month ago and have wanted to attempt it for quite a while. It ended up being a relaxing 3.5 hour drive around the country side. It’s nice to have a couple more GCA caches with a Big Grin on them. I found a few different dinosaurs and other different types of hides. All caches found today were quick finds and were left at its current location for the next finder to move along. Today’s finds also included a few Trig-Points finds. I would like to thank all CO’s of the caches I found today and for allowing them to bring joy to me and the rest of the caching community. TFTC’s and TFTTP’s Big Grin

Started at Bathurst bright and early for a bit of a trip down south, have a few trigs picked up to go after, got a relaxing trip as have to be back home on Saturday see how far I can go & how many trigs I can get photos of on the trip. This was the third stop on the second day was still not far from Young at a trig called Wilkie and took the required photo once I found a spot to shoot from. Thanks for the trig Geocaching Australia. Got quite close to this one which made a nice change but not close enough to get a photo of the name plate. Clan Phoenix

#GA2220 - 14:45; I was out on a country drive to Young with the geohoney to buy some cherries in the premier cheery growing area of the country. After a bit of lunch in the town we were headed south on the cherry hunt when I spotted this trig not far off our planned route. A quick detour and we were soon at GZ. A real drive by it proved to be and we were quickly on our way after a short piccie stop. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

I'd been visiting Young over the past month or so but the local trigs were mostly out of reach. This one was in a good spot though right beside the road. I grabbed the shots as the sun westered and managed to get a shot of the plaque to update the name of the trig. 'Wilkie'. There's a lump of concrete at the base which may have had something to do with the previous trig. Good one.

It is always a good day when there is a normal cache easily accessible by road. Nice spot up here to live I think. Thanks

Out this way with blackbunny. I was checking my gps all the way for trigs and different caches. Saw we were coming up to this one, and said to blackbunny looks like this one is near to the road. We spotted it and thought hey lets get a trig. Took the photo from the fence. Brillant another trig cache!

Saw on GE that this was close to the road. Only a few metres from the fence so took a photo etc. Will upload the photo once I catch up as have been travelling.
