Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

BTW: There is a GC.com Cache Less the 50 Metres from this Trig Point. So i recon that it's a 2 For the price of 1. And The Guy on the Fire watch tower knows about the cache.

#GA2118 - 13:40; Day one of a caching run through eastern Victoria with Sol de lune to build on our July trip further to the west. After collecting a new CORS in Cann River, we headed west along the Princes Highway. Thought we'd found the road to the top of Mount Raymond, but only went a couple of hundred metres before we decided that discretion was the better part of valour and beat a retreat. Continuing along the highway, we found the correct road up and found the path was much easier than our first attempt. Once at the top, grabbed a snap, took in the views, grabbed a nearby GC cache then hit the road again. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Once the right road was found, the trig was reached and the required photo snapped. Great views, even on cloudy overcast day like today.

Staying at Orbost we found this one while exploring the area. Great views. Another drive by trig.

I probably looked a little 'out-of-place' coming on up to the transmission tower with a kayak on the roof racks!
But there was a trig point up here! Found it at 1600, Friday, a steel pipe quadrapod, common in Victoria, with black semi-circular vanes. Though unlike the ones in NSW, these don't have holes punched in them.

Found while finding the nearby GC cache. I'm surprised this hasn't been logged since 2012 Shocked. A great view from here and easy to drive to. Worth a visit.

On day thirteen of our excursion out of Tasmania touring from Melbourne to Canberra and return via Gippsland we toured around Lakes Entrance, staying in the seaside town for two nights. We attempted many of the caches we previously had to leave as we travelled north to Canberra. After a wild night of wind and rain, it was a pleasant day – fine and cool. We spent the morning walking between caches and then used our car for the afternoon cache hunts.

Reading the logs we were a little uncertain whether this cache was accessible in a 2WD car. So, whilst we were in the area we decided to take a look. We were pleasantly surprised that there was a reasonable gravel road to within about 100m of the cache and we could have driven to the cache if we had been in our of our cars and not a hire car. We are not sure what the road would be like in wet weather but today, with a dry surface, it was an easy drive. We walked the last 100m and, after skirting around the communications towers, we came to the trig point, somewhat dwarfed by the towers around it. After taking the requred photos, we took time to take in the magnificent views from this vantage point. TFTC

276. . On the way down to Mornington Pen for my uncle's 70th birthday and with my olds in the car with me. Headed up here for the 3rd time and for the 3rd time came up the roughest way and found the good way on the way out. Parents were impressed by the views to the west but not so much the east. To me they are all good.

TFTC and the everybody loves.

Called in here on a road trip to Bombala. Have been past this turnoff so many times but never ventured up. Glad I did. Fantastic views on a brilliant sunny day. Roadbike had no problems so any car could make it up there.

Found by Bob at 1610

Having headed up Mt Raymond for the GC cache up there, I had a fair idea that there would be a trig point too and a quick glance revealed it. It's a fantastic spot to take in the views and it's great to get a couple of caches there at the same time.

Found also on a GC.com cache.

Yep, views are amazing. worth the detour. A 2WD will make it easy. A little corrugated but you will make it.
