Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Winburndale.

Serial number is: TS4789.

Last Inspected on: April 28, 1982.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

sadly it turns out this is in the proscribed area of the Winburdale Dam water supply, so off limits.

A return to the Winburndale Nature Reserve on a trig hunt with rogerw3 ...

Gated on Flat Top Fire Trail made for a long walk through a never changing landscape of Aussie native forest awash with fallen timber. Waypoint side trails were ticked off til the Winburndale Fire Trail and a final lurch towards the trig. Sighted 200 m ahead over a green swathe and found in near pristine condition with excellent vanes, mast and (misspelled) name plate intact. Splashes of open country can be seen through the trees - and a large area of cairn rocks indicate a likely impressive original cairn may have stood before.

Then there was the long long trek back ...

An easy find after a longish walk with whitemushroom, well worth the effort. Interesting to see that the name plaque is wrong, it shows Winborndale instead!
