Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

A quick find here today

Out for a Sunday drive with Just a cacher and decided to drop in and grab a cache or two as we passed by. 28 years ago I could have taken a photo touching the Trig as I was stationed here.

A quick find here today

moving house, house moving, whatever you want to call it karma this thing Nomad like... Captains Moving Castle!

The captain and I are just picking up a couple of gca caches on our way through.

Note: App pic load error. Pic lost.

One side of the hill gets you a shot of the actual trig, not just the tower. I took some shots with The SLR and telephoto, but for this log, it will just be the photo from the iPad. Grainy.

08-Nov-18
The trig point vane was clearly visible next to the radar installation on top of the hill. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: Mrs y'stassie with the trig point in the distance on the hill above; a closer view of the survey marker vane. Thanks for the cache.

Heading back towards Canberra caching. TFTC.

01-Jan-18
Not able to get close to this one as access is restricted, but with a long lens a reasonable picture can be taken along Btu Rd. TFTC.

18-Nov-17
Up for a reunion and saw this on the hill.

14-Mar-17
didn't want to get too close, but got a reasonable shot as i moved away

Found on our way home to Canberra after a week in Currarong. For this trig, we just parked at the edge of the private property road and took a photo of the station - hopefully, this is enough. Lovely area around here. TFTC GCA! Clan Cerberus

26-Dec-16
Picking up some caches and Trig Points on my way to Kangaroo Valley.

14-Dec-16
Another stop over on my way to Nowra. Yep it isn't possible to get up close and personal with this one, so grabbed a pic from the road.

14-Oct-16
Seen while on my way to HMAS Albatross so this one seemed appropriate.

Radar was spinning which was cool, but because of the private road this was as close as I could get.

Found @ 1245, 10/1/2016 after a short drive around showed that I had better take a zoom shot until 'further notice'.
Thanks

#GA612 - 12:50; I was headed for home after a night in Nowra and took the short detour to grab this trig on the way past. Unfortunately close access is by authorized personnel only, and the gate further down the hill is clearly marked as private property. Looks like further finds on this one will also bee from a distance. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

GCA 867 - 8091. In the Jervis Bay area for a weeks work.

Grabbed this tricky Trig after finding the nearby GC cache. Great Views from up here !

TFTC !!

Well this was not difficult for me to find as I work here quite often. The hard part was to get the picture that I wanted. I finally had an opportunity to get up on the roof to fix the beacon light. While I was there why not take a snap or two. I take the point for nearest the pin.

Found on a drive around Nowra & the Albatross.
Nice bonus, excellent views. TFTC,

Parked nearby, took to the path and soon had the trig in sight.

Initially a bit puzzled on how to approach this without getting shot for trespassing, then saw the Admirals walk around the side of the hill. Got close enough for a picture, great views from the walking track too.

24-Aug-11
Had to ring headquarters (home) and find out just how close previous finders had got to the top... turned out I had a little walk ahead of me and once at the top a person took notice of my presence.. I grabbed the pic and retreated before he came over Dancing
Awesome view

08-Aug-11
Got this one while attempting a GC cache nearby.. took a while to locate it but got it in the end... Was a bit hard to get the required picture on my own given the terrain but managed to finally get one..
Some beautiful views all around from up here...

160. I can see that on a clear day this would have views of the sea, see? However seeing as the sky was seedy the see bit of seeing the sea was so so it was not see-worthy.

TFTT and the bleeding seabird flavour.

Photo to come.

10-Oct-10
Nice easy find and a great view of Nowra.

South coast Invasion. Yet another location with a cache done before and the trig not logged. Oh well, I was in the area and a second visit was not wasted

While taking photos up here may look a bit suss, given it is part of a military radar installation, managed to get there and grab the pic. Unfortunately the co-sited GC cache appears to be missing which is the 2nd time I DNFed it. But at least this time was the bonus of a trigpoint.

09-Oct-10
As I arrived a 4wd was driving down the hill. Oh and it had geocaching management vehicle on it. We waved and then we got to gz nice views from up here

18-Aug-10

Hope my sperm count is still good.

20-Jun-10
found with Tankengine and Marcus

26-Mar-10
Got as close as I could, but I'd hate to get closer with that radar spinning around - the microwaves would fry you! This has been my closest unfound for way too long, just waiting for another reason to be in the vicinity.

07-Jan-10
Can't help but appreciate how lucky we are in this country! How many other places have you been where taking photos of military establishments would at the very least have your camera confiscated and an escort out of the country, and very probably land you in gaol!

29-Oct-09
The Trig can be accessed via the walk which skirts the radar station - thanks Wilbert67

28-Oct-09
You can indeed see the Trig from the path so I was a bit hasty in archiving it. Took the photo & then headed further west to another.(It's the black dot on the roof.)

17-Oct-09
Indeed its located in a restricted area, nevertheless its possible to get within less than 20 meters of the trigpoint and make picture!
All on public grounds
